Buffering issues with good connection

We have a Google Home WiFi  router with 3 points' It tests at 425 mbsp download speeds yet I have constant buffering issues with my Samsung smart tv. When I talked to tech support at Spectrum which is out internet provider, they said it was an issue with Google router. The tech said our tv was pulling in 5 mbs and then it would drop to 1 mps. The signal was not consistent. Any suggestions on how to adjust settings or anything?

Hi dbrenmoore,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the connection of your TV. I'd love to know more about this, and I have a few questions:

  • How far is your TV from the nearest WiFi point?
  • Have you tried doing a mesh test on the Google Home app?
  • Are there any other devices affected?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward

I have to say I am extremely disappointed with Google. I tried to call the support number. The Facebook page is a sham. There is no customer service from the company at all. My warranty is now expired. I bought Google Home Wifi because the internet/cable company told me it was the best for my house. I unhooked their router and put it on. Google Home worked well for the first few months. We do not have a complicated house. We live out in the country so we have no interference from other homes or businesses.  We have fiberoptic internet and cable services. This was all installed new last January for our area. I put the 3 units so they communicated in the house. They all registered decent Wi-Fi then on and off we had extreme buffering issues and we went through the usual unplugging nonsense and it seemed to correct for a bit, Then in about December it got terrible. Google Home showed spotty coverage. We had a power outage where the power went on and off a few times and then went out. After that Google Home continued to show good internet but the smart tvs, laptops  and phones etc just buffered. I reset the modem and Google Home several times. The internet company said good speed was coming in to their modem so the issue was our Wi-Fi router. After a couple of days of trying to get Google to answer me, I put the original Wi-Fi router back on and shut Google home off. We have NO problems with buffering or disconnects. We paid $200.00 for that system and it is terrible. How it is highly recommended is beyond me. It started out simple. Was easy to hook up but with time it got worse. No instructions came with it other than the most basic hook up.

Sorry for the rant but after years and years of no decent internet here, we thought we were in heaven when we had internet of more than literally 1 mbps. To go through this nonsense was inexcuseable especially from such a wealthy company. Obviously Google does not care about the consumers of its products.

Hi, dbrenmoore.

I know it's been some time since you posted this, but I wanted to check in as we've seen both updates to Google Home and to the WiFi device firmware. I wanted to check in to see if you were still having these same issues or if the updates managed to improve your situation. If you're still seeing issues, let me know and I would like to pick this back up and work with you on finding a resolution for you. Hopefully things are running better for you at this point.

Thanks.

Hi, LMR2000.

Sorry to hear that you're seeing a similar issue. By any chance do you have any preferred activities set up in the Google Home app? If so, what is enabled? If you could check that out for me real fast, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Sorry but I already posted that I got rid of the Google home wifi system . I have just a regular router with no issues with buffering at all. I am angry that there is actually no customer support for their product. I got it because it was recommended by an IT person saying that it was a good system. I kept blaming the buffering on the internet provider while they assured me their service was showing excellent speeds coming into the house. When I initially set it up it seemed to work okay. We never added anything in the house that would have interfered with it so I am not sure what happened. The only thing I could think of was a power outage that we had that must have done something to the unit. Anyway problem solved with another router.

Hi Jeff I’m having the same problem as well. My mesh points are relatively close and showing a great connection. The buffering with my Samsung tv primarily happens during a sporting event. It doesn’t make sense as my tv is right next to a router.

Similar experience.  Installed simple 3 points system in order to get better wi-fi to remote part of the house.  All important devices are hardwired using cat5e cabling.  I basically just unplugged my Netgear system installed 2 years ago and plugged the Google Wi-FI system in place of it.  Multiple devices (TV, desktop PCs, ROKU, etc) buffer at the most inopportune times, and these devices are the hardwired devices with no wi-fi involved.  Looks like I am going to have to throw the Google system in the trash and set up a more complicated but reliable system

Same issue here. Google doesn’t seem to have any solutions - just relying on users to answer endless questions that never come to a resolve. Google Support - you know this issue is prevalent. When will you have a solution?

We are also having this issue.  Anyone get a resolution?

Same issue,  not just the TV (it's wired), buffering on Facebook videos, or websites streaming.   Odd thing is, I am a retired network tech, I know what the QoS issue is here.  The latest google mesh wifi was supposed to be a solution for the home to move to wifi 6 without the need for me to make adjustments or programing the APs etc.  So easy to install my daughter set it up.... long story short, she is so frustrated with the lack of configuration options, and "Quality of Service", that she has asked me to put back the 7 year old wifi setup we were using before.  Google, you have a problem here.  I am not sure what my daughter spent on the three mesh APs, but I am about to install $45 worth of equipment that makes your pretty little toys look bad.
