Buffering while streaming yet high Mbps

LaurenMeadows

We have satellite internet with usual average speeds of 20 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload, but the tv in the living room (above the first mesh point) buffers while streaming a movie and I have EVERYTHING else in the house shut down manually or paused through Google home. Downstairs it’s the same thing, the TV buffers and it’s right beside the other nest, the mesh connection tests are always “great”. We are presently streaming on Firestick or Prime, both buffer. I do get better results if I start the movie by restarting the  network, clearing caches on apps on the Firestick, restarting the firestick and again disabling everything else in the house that uses wifi but that’s not always a guarantee it will still buffer at times. Someone said there is “something” else affecting our connection yet no one on this planet it seems can help me to determine what that is. My internet company refuses to come out and look at our connection because from their view our internet speeds are fine. We are very rural, no building around us, smaller two level home.

I have the cable from the satellite plugged directly into the first Google Nest router and then the two nest points. Am I supposed to have a second router? I keep seeing comments and diagrams of the first nest router being plugged into a different router but I thought this was different due to our satellite cable.

I am so frustrated because it just seems like there is no one that can help me.

Does it help to set the streaming device as "priority device"?

What ISP (internet service provider) and modem/router do you got? Do you know if it's in bridge mode, sometimes known as bypass mode, to avoid double NAT? Double NAT can cause strange problems and affect performance. More on that:

I'd also like to add that 20mbps download speed isn't that much in this time and age. Depending on streaming service and what quality you try to stream, it might not even be enough. Might also be that the higher latency/ping sattelite internet introduces can cause some slugness too. More relevant info:
