Casting from Pixel 5 to Nest Hub Fails

BoulderJ
Community Member

I frequently cast podcasts from my Pixel 5 phone to my Nest Hub.  Both are connected to my Nest WiFi which has a router and two points.  Very often, when I attempt to cast from my phone to the Hub (which does appear in the list of devices for casting), the cast fails and says my Pixel 5 and Hub are not on the same WiFi network (they are).  Rebooting my Pixel 5 solves this problem, but it recurs often.

Can anyone help?

Hi BoulderJ,

Thanks for reaching out.

Sorry to hear about what you are experiencing right now with casting. Have you ever tried to use a different phone to check if you are getting the same behavior? Based on what you have mentioned, rebooting your Pixel 5 solves this issue. We'd like to further check if it is a device restrictions or not.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Hi BoulderJ,

Thanks for responding.

We can go ahead and try to perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Hub, however, just to give you a heads up, it won't guarantee that it will fix this because it might be the casting device that you're using is the one misbehaving.

Also, let's make sure that your Google Nest Hub as well as your phone is within range and with a good distance from your Nest Wi-WiFi for a better connection. Let me know if you want to proceed on resetting your Google Nest Hub so I can guide you with the steps on how to do it.

Best,

Princess

Please give me the procedure for resetting the Hub.

Thanks.

Hi BoulderJ,

To reset the Google Nest Hub, you can follow this link for the step by step procedure.

As soon as it is completely done, set it up making sure that it is within a good distance from the Wi-Fi preferably within 10-15 feet. Let me know how it goes.

I don't have another phone right now, just the Pixel 5.  Any other suggestions?

I found this to be an issue for other Google cast options as well. Pixel 5 attempts to cast, it says connecting. The icon turns red in notifications, but when you visit the cast again, clearly not connected, then times out or fails. Only reboot fixes. I use this device with Bluetooth headsets, car, etc. No issues. Just casting is a failed connection till a full reboot is done.

Hey arjunmenon,

Thanks for reaching out. Let's see what's going on.

To confirm, are you casting from cast-enabled apps like Netflix or YouTube or casting from your Pixel phone using Chrome browser? Was it working before? Also, have you tried the troubleshooting steps above?

Alex
