Family wi-fi group paused but not paused

Ksull

We have our devices grouped and have successfully used the “pause” function for a while. Now I find that despite it saying devices in the group are paused, they are not in fact paused and my kids are on the internet without me knowing. This is in addition to our nest wifi dropping regularly as posted by so many others. I can’t even fathom the stuffing around to try to trouble shoot this but wanted to share. We are going to move systems to Netgear Orbi I think.

Hi Ksull,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties with the device pausing feature in the Google Home app, specifically with groups. I'll do my best to assist you.

Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • When you say the devices aren't paused, are they completely unaffected, or do they have limited internet access?

  • Have you tried pausing individual devices outside of the group to see if the pause function works at all?

  • When you check the Google Home app, does it show the devices as paused, or does the status not match what's actually happening?

  • Have you tried creating a new group and adding devices to it, then testing the pause function on that new group?

  • Have you tried restarting your Google Wifi router and your modem?

  • How many devices are in the group you're trying to pause?

  • Regarding the regular Wi-Fi drops, how often are they occurring, and what happens when the connection drops?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin
