Many smart home devices only support 2.4 GHz during setup, and the phone doing the setup must be on the same band. Because Nest Wifi forces automatic band steering, users can’t choose which band their phone connects to, and it often locks onto 5 GHz.
In my case, the smart device is hard‑wired, so I can’t “walk far enough away” to force my phone onto 2.4 GHz. This makes setup impossible.
Request:
Please add a simple option to temporarily disable the 5 GHz band (even for 10–15 minutes) or provide a way to force a device or phone onto 2.4 GHz during setup.
This would solve a major compatibility issue and bring Nest Wifi in line with other mesh systems that already offer band control features.
