Google Nest - Double Nat and Xbox One

mikehill113

Hey Google Nest community,

I'm trying to resolve my Double Nat issues on my Xbox One that is connected to my Google Nest Router. I have a Google WiFi point that I have also tried to turn off so the 'mesh' connection doesn't get in the way - I don't know why it should though because all the mesh is doing is extending the current network.

I don't know where the 'second' NAT is coming from because the Google Nest Route is receiving internet directly from an NBN modem (Australia).

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

Is the modem provided by your internet provider also a router? If so that is where the double nat could be coming into play.  You should be able to disable the router on your ISPs modem

Unfortunately I don’t have a modem. The internet runs directly into a NBN box (Australia) as I received internet through Hyrbid Fibre Coaxial.

This then connects internet directly to the Google Nest Router. So there’s no modem to bypass or disconnect.

Hi folks,

@Ashepherdson, thanks for the help!

@mikehill113, thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Google Wifi. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share the make and model of your NBN box?

Thanks,

Edward

Hey Edward,

Thanks for reaching out! It is an Arris CM8200. So I have the Ethernet cable running from the UNI-D1 on the NBN box to the WAN port on my Google Nest Router.

I currently also have an Ethernet cable running to a LAN switch which connects my TV to the network. The switch is a D-Link DGS-1005A.

I also have a Nest Wifi Point too which is mesh connected so the wireless network can reach cleanly to the office. I've tried to do a bit of research myself on this and perhaps my Xbox is picking up the WiFi feed from the Wifi Point as well as the Router which is next to the TV.

Thanks team!

Hi mikehill113,

Thanks for the response. In most cases, Double Network Address Translation (Double NAT) does not affect Wi-Fi performance. But it can be an issue if you play online games or use port forwarding rules and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). You could click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Hey everyone,

It looks like we've slowed down here. We'll be closing up the thread in the next day unless anyone else has any input or needs anything else. If so, just let me know and we can keep this open a bit longer.

Thanks,
Jeff
