Google Nest WiFi Slow Speeds Over Time - Restarting or Unplugging and Replugging Ethernet Cable Temp

Hello Nest WiFi Community,

I have been experiencing a recurring issue with my Google Nest WiFi system and am seeking advice or solutions. Over time, I've noticed that my WiFi speeds gradually slow down, affecting my overall internet performance. However, I've discovered that unplugging and replugging the Ethernet cable connected to my Nest WiFi temporarily improves the speed.

 

Here's a detailed breakdown of the issue:

 

1. Initial Setup:

   - My Nest WiFi system was set up following the standard procedure and initially provided excellent coverage and speed.

 

2. Gradual Slowdown:

   - After a few days, I notice a significant reduction in internet speed. Streaming becomes sluggish, downloads take longer, and overall connectivity feels laggy.

 

3. Temporary Fix:

   - To address the slowdown, I unplug the Ethernet cable from the Nest WiFi router and then replug it after a few seconds. This action seems to restore the speed to its original state temporarily. Or restarting WiFi router also resolves issue temporarily.

 

4. Frequency:

   - This slowdown and temporary fix cycle happens repeatedly, necessitating frequent manual intervention.

 

5. Additional Information:

   - I have a stable internet connection directly from my ISP.

   - Firmware on the Nest WiFi is up to date.

   - The Nest WiFi is placed in an open area, free from obstructions and interference.

 

Has anyone else experienced this issue with their Nest WiFi system? Are there any known solutions or settings adjustments that could help maintain consistent speeds without the need for constant manual intervention?

Exactly the same problem for months ! Please Google, fix it or give us a function to schedule a restart like other wifi boxes !

I have called Google support multiple times but haven't received a resolution. One agent recommended upgrading to new devices.

To better understand the issue, please tell me:

 

  • Did you run a speedtest from the Google Home app or a web browser?
  • If so, what were the results?

 

The slowdown could be caused by a few things:

 

  • Ethernet cable: A faulty Ethernet cable connecting your modem to the router might not be providing a strong enough signal. I recommend replacing the Ethernet cable.
  • Device age: Ensure you purchased the device from an authorized retailer and check its lifespan. Devices can sometimes malfunction before their expected lifespan. To troubleshoot this:

 

Also, I recommend changing your DNS and IPv6 settings.

I have tried changing the Ethernet cable and doing a factory reset of the router, but it didn't help. I also attempted to adjust the DNS and IPv6 settings without success.

 

My device is about four years old.

How can I check the health status of my device? Are there any diagnostic tools available?

I’ve been in communication with the Google Nest Wi-Fi Support Team regarding an issue with my router for over two months now. Despite multiple back-and-forth interactions, the problem remains unresolved. My Google Support Inquiry number is 6-7069000036381.

At this point, it seems like there might be an underlying issue with the Nest Wi-Fi router that is difficult to resolve. I would appreciate any additional guidance or insight from the community or support on how to proceed.
