Google Nest Wifi - AC2200 - Constant Disconnects

I have the Google Nest Wifi AC2200 Mesh WiFi System along with 5 Wi-Fi points. I purchased this system when it was released. Up until just about a week ago, the system disconnected at least three times a day.

It always disconnects around 2 am, then at around 2 pm and the 3rd time varies between 2 pm to 10 pm. I must have spoken to Google support at least 3 different times.

They recommend that I do a full power cycle of my modem, and the Google Nest router wifi, factory reset each of my 5 wifi points, and delete and reinstall the Google Home App.

For those who understand this process and those who don't understand it, you can only imagine how long it takes to connect the google router to my modem when it disconnects and disconnects at least 3 times a day!  Not to mention the other devices that now has to be reconfigured to connect to the wifi points such as TV's, chrome cast, you name it.

As of today on 10-17-2024, Wifi was disconnected from my modem at 4 am, again at 7:10 am and again at 1:30 pm. This all started happening just recently.

My network setup has not changed. I'm at this point, furious and disappointed all at the same time. I have contacted Google to help me out on this on several occasions. In the last call I had, the Google Home App stated to me while getting the wifi points connected again, that the app now has a bug and needs restarted. I ended up completely deleting my home location from the app, then deleting the app, reinstalling it, and setting things up all over again. This was close to the 2-hour process.

This is getting ridiculous. What caused this to happen all of a sudden? Nothing has changed since the day I got it, same modem, which works like a champ. I'm just flabbergasted at this.

Am I alone in this? Is anyone else out there who own this system experienced something similar? If so? What was done to fix this?

Does this system have a built-in shelf-life? Is Google trying to make me buy the newer version of this system? Why is it failing only a little after a year?

I have already checked for the following:

e default LAN IP is ######## A different LAN IP means you changed your DHCP range.

  • Child points: The IP address should be within the specified LAN IP range for WiFi devices.
  1. Check the LAN IP of your device to verify it's within the network-set DHCP range.
  2. Default LAN IP range: #######
  3. Verify if the child points have an IP address outside of the parent points' LAN IP range.

Unless you have an enormous property, that many points will cause its own interference.

I'm in a two-story house. I have five access points: one for each bedroom and one for each living room/kitchen.

Point being, for the first 2+ years, I've never had this happen, up until maybe about 4 months ago. The question is why? What is the variable? Nothing has changed.

Hi Jpark2479,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're having troubles with your Google Nest WiFi getting disconnected. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • Do you use a modem and router combo?
  • What’s the color of the light on the main router from Google? Does the device LED switch from orange to teal (or white) continuously?
  • How far is the modem from the primary point?
  • Is there a switch on the network?
  • How far are the Wi-Fi points from each other?
  • Have you noticed if when you lose connection on your Google router, you also lose it on your ISP's modem?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin

Hello, sorry for the late reply. Recently, the disconnections stopped for about 2 weeks and suddenly they started again. I am now at the point of attempting to use Wireshark to see if I'm subject to dos or de-auth attacks. I just recently started learning wireshark so this is a feeble attempt at resolving this issue. With that said to answer your questions.

  • Do you use a modem and router combo?
    • Yes modem and router combo.
  • What’s the color of the light on the main router from Google? Does the device LED switch from orange to teal (or white) continuously?
    • The main router color is white continuously until the internet connection is disrupted.
  • How far is the modem from the primary point?
    • The modem is about a feet away from the primary point.
  • Is there a switch on the network?
    • No switch on the network
  • How far are the Wi-Fi points from each other?
    • Wifi points and the distance between them vary. The ones downstairs are further away than the upstairs ones. I have 3 upstairs in each bedroom. The ones that are downstairs are further apart than the rest and each other as 1 sits on the west side of the house whereas the other sits on the west side of the house.
  • Have you noticed if when you lose connection on your Google router, you also lose it on your ISP's modem?
    • No, luckily my ISP's modem is up 99% of the time. It's my fail-safe and I have my office equipment connected to it wirelessly and that's the only saving grace I have as I work remotely.

Same! This thing is frocking Garbage! Tomorrow I'm reinstalling my standard thermostat! I have a sick baby and my **bleep** furnace keeps turning on every 5 mins because it disconnected and doesn't know the temp or something.
