Google Nest Wifi dropping signal

Htran713

Hey,

I'm at a lost at what to do with my google wifi router and points. The signal shows connected but unable to access the internet. This keeps happening after multiple resets. Does anyone have any other advice?

Thanks!

Hi Htran713,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear you're having this issue. Let's see what's going on.

I'd like to isolate the issue first. Could you connect a laptop directly to your modem and check if there will be an Internet connection? I'll wait for your update.

Regards,
Abi

Hey Abi,

I do have a connected. I have a wired Ethernet cord running from my ISP modem/router combo into my computer and it works. My laptop also connects and works fine with the ISP router/combo. When I connect to the Google mesh wifi, it shows connected but is not stable and keeps dropping off. This is after multiple resets too.

Hello Htran713,

A few questions: how many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data. You can skip this step if you've already done it.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

Hey Abi,

It worked for a bit, but experiencing the same issue again. Wifi shows active but there is no connecting signal. The normal ISP wifi still works but google nest wifi doesn't work.
