Google Nest Wifi not connecting to Dodo NBN

taqi
Community Member

Following the instructions on Dodo website and the google website - no luck getting connected to the internet.

I have a router provided by my Dodo and I've tried connecting the Google router directly to the NBN box and also tried connecting it to the Dodo router - neither seems to work.

Google has some documentation about this here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9798157?hl=en-AU&visit_id=638045789181757522-1494733138...

Not quite sure what else I can do to get the mesh working.

Anyone else with Dodo and a Google Nest wifi?

Given you're using NBN, try these steps:

  1. Connect your NBN box to the wall as per normal.
  2. Connect your DODO supplied router to the NBN box as DODO instruct you.
  3. Connect a computer to the LAN port on the DODO router.
  4. Disable the Wi-Fi networks on the DODO router.
  5. Connect the WAN port of the Nest Wifi router to the LAN port of the DODO router. It should get a DHCP address from the DODO LAN range.
  6. Start the normal setup of Nest Wifi using the Home app. You should see it gets a WAN IP from the LAN range given out by the DODO router.

With this configuration, you might run into Double NAT, which isn't necessarily a problem. But if it's causing problems, it's recommended that you put your DODO router in bridge mode.

Thanks David.

I tried the steps you outlined above.

After disabling the wireless bands, i tried setting up the Google router... But still the same issue. ☹️

Do you get internet access at step 3 when you connect a computer to a LAN port on the DODO router?

Yes, the laptop remains connected to internet even after I disable the Wifi bands.

What IP range is the DODO router using, or what IP address does the laptop get? I wonder if there's a conflict going on here:

Local IP network changed to 192.168.85.0/24 (Google Wifi) - Google Nest Help

The IP address pool is 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.250 on the Dodo router.

The laptop gets 192.168.1.119

Is that sign of a conflict?

No that should be fine. Nest Wifi uses 192.168.86.0/24 by default for LAN addresses so no conflict going on. I'm out of ideas unfortunately!

Hi davidking, thank you for all your help with this.

After speaking to a lot of different people at Dodo I finally stumbled upon someone who knew what was going on and suggested that I'll have to move to a BYO modem type account.

Basically, when you sign up with Dodo (or most other ISPs that has provisions for a BYO router) they create either a Dodo modem account (which has vlan tagging) or a BYO modem account.

Basically, Dodo cancelled my account (which led to no internet for all of yesterday) but they reactivated my account under BYO modem and last night I was finally able to set up my Nest wifi. I did have to call them a few times because their processes have a lot of holes in them.

Thanks again for all your help.
