Google Nest Wifi speed issues

darrenmassa
Community Member

I've seen versions of this issue before, but I've yet to see a definitive solution. Wired speeds to desktop computers/devices are generally pretty fast, but my wifi is usually around 10% of what it should be (I have Xfinity cable internet with a brand new owned Motorola router). The Google Home app always shows my speed in the 400-500+ Mbps range, while Speedtest (and my own user experience) shows far lower...around 40. I have version 1 Google wifi as well as Nest wifi. I've tried different combinations of those and nothing seems to work. Sometimes restarting the system works, but it usually reverts to slower speeds eventually. Recently even restarting isn't working. Does anyone know of a solution?

Hi darrenmassa,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community.

I’m sorry to hear the trouble with your WiFi speed. Let’s further look into it. Just to check, what’s the distance of your Google Wifi and Google Nest Wifi from each other? The placement of your Google Wifi/Nest Wifi is vital for the reliability of your Wi-Fi network throughout your home. Kindly visit Where to place your Wifi devices. If the issue persists, try doing the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Wi-Fi > Settings > Advanced Networking.
  3. Tap DNS.
  4. Select Custom and enter “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4”.
  5. Go back to Wi-Fi > Settings.
  6. Tap Privacy Settings.
  7. Toggle Nest Wifi cloud services off and on, then tap Save.
  8. Restart your entire network.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex
