Google Nest & Vodafone

Mcallaby

Hi all

I’ve em recently moved to Vodafone broadband to take advantage of their full fibre Gigabit broadband, however I want to be able to connect my Google Nest WIFI so I can get coverage around the whole property.

I’m not quite sure how to set this up. Do I plug the Nest Router into the back of the Vodafone Router via one of the Ethernet ports or is there something else I should be doing?

Any help getting this setup would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi Mcallaby,

Thanks for reaching out. You just need to connect the ethernet cable from your Vodafone router to your Google Wifi's WAN port. (The port with the globe icon). You could click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Jeff. I have been away but did try this method me too es briefly yesterday with no luck. After attacking the Ethernet to the Vodafone router and the Google WiFi port I got a flashing white light.  This looked like I needed to go to my Google home and check the WIFI router there.

The router that was previously there (using my previous ISP) was still in my home but showing offline, so I tried to add a new Router. I chose “WIFI” from the list and the nest version, and got the sign of the balancing shapes so I thought all was good. However the screen just went back to the product list. So I chose “WIFI” again and went through the process, balancing shapes, back to product list.  So I appeared to be in an endless loop.

i was going to try again after a bit of Googling but if you can help I’d appreciate it.

thanks, Matt

Hey Mcallaby,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you here. Hopefully you have already sorted this out, but if not, I'm happy to help you get there. Since you mentioned a double router setup, I wonder if you're running into a double NAT situation. With the mesh setup, the only router that should be active is your Nest router and the router from your ISP should be in modem mode only (not acting as a router). Here's a link explaining what double NAT is and how it might be affecting setup: https://goo.gle/3bmNiUO. If you have any additional questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff
