Google Nest needs to be rebooted daily to get above 10MB per second

Over the past 6 months my Nest WiFi mesh system has been having issues with internet speed. I currently get 300MB/sec from my cable modem to my main unit in the house but one of my Mesh units no further than 50 feet away seems to drop its speed to 10MB/sec daily. When I unplug the unit, my speed jumps to 150MB/sec or more for about 4-6 hours before it starts to drop again. Its very frustrating.

My Set-up:

  • Next Wi-Fi Base Station and Cable Modem are in a central location on my property
  • 1 Next Mesh access point in the living room, 50 ft away
  • 1 Next Mesh access piont in my Studio, 25 ft away

When I run a speed test from Google Home I get 300MB per second to my base station.

When I run a speed test from my Studio I will notice that the speed starts out at 160MB after it has been freshly rebooted but within hours it will drop to 10MB per second

I have factory reset the mesh unit and even switched devices around but I experience the same issue.

same problems here.  mesh is slow and spotty, even though I have 5 access points around the house.  started off great when I installed it a year ago, now it's getting worse all the time

Hi jimmymadd,

Sorry for the speed issues you're seeing. I'm sure that's quite frustrating to have to go through those reboots to get expected speeds. Thanks for providing the info about your setup. I have a couple of things for you to try to see if it impacts things.

  • Check to see if you have IPv6 enabled in your advanced network settings. If so, try disabling it and see if it impacts things.
  • Run a speed test with only the router powered on (unplug the points for a moment) and see how speeds measure. Try adding one point in and repeating. Add the third and measure once more. See if you can learn anything from measurements there.
  • Aside from the speed results, what are you getting in regards to connection strength for each point after a mesh test? Could you share those results.

If you can give me a bit more info, we can sort out what's happening here. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Jeff
