Google Wifi speed limited to under 100Mbs

I have a Gigabit connection (1000/1000Gbps NBN Enterprise Ethernet) I've always had issues with my Google Wifi speeds occasionally dropping back to be speed limited to 100Mbs.  Usually this just requires running a speed test in the app or a restart of my router.

Recently a restart of the router results in the connection speed temporarily being restored to about 800/900, but it only lasts about 1 minute.  Then the Google WiFi loses the connection for about 30 seconds and reconnects back to about 800/900, then lasts about minute and the cycle continues anywhere from 5-10 attempts.  At which time it drops back to a 100/100 connection (all tests are directly wired).

Setup consists of the NBN Device wired through CAT 7 cable to the Google Wifi, which is connected to an Unmanaged Switch (Netgear ProSafe JGS524PE) wired via CAT 7 to the PC where I'm doing all tests.  I've also tested over WiFi at approximately 3 metres and get similar results.

I'm obviously paying a lot for the EE connection and its pretty frustrating not being able to take advantage of what I'm paying for.  My ISP seems adamant the issue is the router and not at their end.  I've tried all the suggestions on other posts with no success:

Full system reset, turning off IPv6, power cycling, knocking the connection, power cycling my switch.

I've had enough, I have 4x mesh points and to be honest I'd like a refund on the Google Wifi due to this subpar performance unless a resolution can be found.

I've purchased a new TP-Link BE85 WiFi 7 Mesh (3 point) which will be an interesting test as I'm pretty confident the dropouts and slow connections will disappear.

Has anyone been able to permanently resolve these issues?  I have a considerable Google Store credit but I'm definitely not confident in upgrading to the Google Nest Pro as I'm sure I'll have similar issues.

Hello @MrSpot

This sounds like an Ethernet cable connection issue. If you run an internet speed test from the Google Home app, does it show >100Mbps? If so, the WAN-side connection to your NBN ISP device is fine. If not, then that connection is unable to maintain a 1Gbps connection (using all four wire pairs) and is falling back to 100Mbps (using one wire pair). If the WAN-side connection is fine, but an internet speed test from a wired device is not showing >100Mbps, then the issue is on the LAN-side connection of the Google WiFi router unit.

Oddly, you may have better luck using Cat 5e cables for those connections, since they are often more flexible than Cat 6 or Cat 7. The ports are only capable of 1Gbps anyway, so anything above Cat 5e isn't better, and stiffer cables have trouble making reliable connections due to the tight bend required underneath the device.

Yes the Google home app consistently tested around 800Mbps, but every now and then it might drop to 90Mbps and I'd have to rerun the test.

I had issues connecting my new TP-Link BE85 initially.  I just replaced the CAT 7 (1m) cable that ran from the NTD to the Router with the Cat 6 cable that came with the new device and it connected straight away.  So it seems like the brand new high quality CAT 7 cable was the problem all along.  Anyway, the new WiFi 7 mesh has better coverage and is much faster so I'm going to stick with that and sell my Google Nest Wifi.

Thanks for the response.
