I have 400 mbps internet. My phone is showing 190 on a speed test app I installed. If I change to my modem’s wifi I stead of Google Wifi I get over 400.
This is not correct behavior. I looked in the Google Home app and ran a mesh test with no issue. I see the Google wifi is receiving 445 mbps download.
The whole reason I bought Google wifi was to improve speed and reliability. Why on earth is it slowing me down? Can I correct this or get a refund?

My issue is a little different. My Guest wifi has way faster download speed tests than my main Wifi network. I'm getting 500mbps from my ISP. The Guest wifi gets the full download speeds, but all of a sudden the main Wifi is snail slow, like less than 100mbps. I've removed all the devices from the main but still slow. Why would the Guest be so much faster?

Any Update on this from Google's end???
Xfinity 1.2 Gig plan - Xb7 Router in BRIDGE mode
Google App speed test - 385mbps
Connected directly to the main point LAN port - 100MBps max
Wifi - 50-100mbps

I’ve not gotten any help. I went through a call and put me down the same road as others. No improvement.

Mine fixed itself after 6 months for reasons unknown. Been working well now for a few months. There is hope.
12-29-2022 12:31 PM
Router test speeds = 794
Prioritized Device speed = 181-220
Mesh network consists of three nodes.
Cable is new from the box.
Installed 11/25/2022
This is worse than having extenders installed.
12-29-2022 01:30 PM
Get used to it or get rid of it.
(I've opted for the last thing)
12-30-2022 03:21 PM
Eeros had/has the exact same problem.
I am thinking I am going going to disconnect all hard wires except mesh and work backwards
12-31-2022 09:32 AM
Same problem here… very bad from such a reputed company…
12-31-2022 10:37 AM
Have to restart mine 4 times a day, it's pathetic, I've already sent my Google Max back as that died on me. The WiFi is horrendous, my bog standard Sky router is much faster. Very disappointing from Google, and no fix in site
01-05-2023 08:37 AM
Passing by Jan 2023 to say that the problem stills happening. Looking forward a fix!

I'm having the same issue. 1.2 GB speeds with Xfinity. Only getting 250 meg speed to devices through Google Wifi, 800 or better on the Xfi Router.

Same problem here in the Netherlands!
Setup: ISP: Ziggo, 3 Google WiFi puck (gen1), Linked LAN port of primary puck to powerline adapter (1300 Mbps) and the 2 satellite pucks are connected to powerline adapters at the WAN ports of the pucks.
ISP Speed at contract: 350 Mbps
Wired speedtest at lan port ISP Modem: approx 240-320 Mbps (at this point also wan port of the primary puck is connected)
Wired speedtest at lan port primary puck: approx 80 Mbps
Speedtest in Google Home App: approx 80 Mbps
Speedtest at laptop connect trough WiFi at close range: approx 80Mbps
Speedtest at laptop connect trough WiFi at further range: approx 60Mbps
I'm using Google WiFi more than 4 years now. I can remember that the Speedtest in de Google app has shown high sppeds (corresponding with my contract), but since a year or 2, I'm seeing lower speeds. Haven been arguing with my ISP over that. But today I did a thorough speeds test analysis and I have to conclude that it is the Goggle WiFi system which is slowing down the speed.
Today I disabled the IPv6 option and entered the custom DNS addresses; hoping that this will change something for the better in the near future. Otherwise I will start looking voor a TP-Link mesh.
01-16-2023 07:33 AM
Today, I found a 25m UTP6 cable in my storage. Just te be sure I connected this cable between the Wan-port of my primary puck and the ISP-Modem (they aren't in the same room, and therefore I wasn't able to test this before). But: all problems solved... 🤐
So I'll have to exchange some house-wiring now 😑
01-16-2023 07:39 AM
Note for the forum admins here: the fact that I solved my problem, does not imply there isn't a problem with your hardware. So this tread can't be closed on my findings.
I juist hope that I can help some people here with the advise to really check their cables!

Update:
After 10 days of joy with high speed internet connection trough my Google WiFi setup, it is back to 20% of the ISP speed. 😡 (80Mbps <> 350Mbps)
Nothing changed, still using the cat6 cable I installed trough the house; It is giving me a headache.
01-25-2023 06:15 PM
so you used cat6 ethernet from youre isp modem to the google router?
01-25-2023 06:22 PM
The one that comes with the router is cat6 but I have ordered another one to try it. I only have 5e around the house. The new one comes tomorrow and we will see.

Hi Everyone,
I have own Google Wifi router for almost 1 year plus and did not know that this is a bug. I have subscript to 1G broadband. Most of the time Ii can understand, user in Singapore will not get the max bandwidth as it is best effort.
I have contected my provider today after finding that my speedtest is about 100Mbps, I restart my ONT, network switch and both my Google Wifi Routers. My test is connecting using wired with my laptop.
test 1 ONT ----> wired to laptop === speed recorded about 800Mbps
test 2 ONT ---> Google Wifi (Master) ---> wired to laptop ==== speed recorded about 100plus Mbps.
Test 3 ONT --> Google Wifi ---> wifi from laptop ==== speedp recorded about 100 Mbps.
After running through the post fomr this portal, IP6 is originally disabled, I change my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
I perform the following test.
Test 1 - ONT --> Google Wifi --> Network switch --> Wired to laptop ====> 800 Mbps
Test 2 - ONT --> Google Wifi ---> wifi to laptop ===> 200 to 300Mbps.
No double the speed has improved, base on wired connection of 800Mbps, is it reasonable for wifi signal drop by a wopping 500Mbps.
Router detail:
Model: H2D
Software version: 14150.376.32
Advance network: WPA3 disable, IPV 6 disabled, DNS custom, WAN = DHCP, Network Mode = Automatically set.
Network name: come with _ not sure if this will affect the Wifi speed.
Privacy settings - "Nest Wifi Cloud services" and "Wifi router and point usage stats" are both enabled.
Are there anything wrong with the setup?
01-18-2023 08:16 AM
Even worse: it should be plug 'n play! So you're not doing anything wrong it just is a faulty device. And Google knows but doesn't care to fix it (or they cant, but won't let us know).
Best advice is: buy from an other brand and be happy ever after!

January 2023. I’ve been having the same problem for months. The silence from Google is baffling. I hope class action lawyers are watching.

##The solution below DID NOT WORK
Back to massively slowed down Wi-Fi, again.
Time to lodge a formal complaint with the ACCC as this product is clearly not fit for purpose###
I've been having the same issue and finally got to look into it today and made what could be an interesting finding.
Most of us probably have the main nest router located close to the modem to get the wan connection.
If your modem is also a WiFi router try switching off 2.4 and 5g channels on the modem.
It appears that being in such close proximity and both transmitting WiFi signals causes bandwidth issues.
I also set the DNS in the Home app to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
This has restored my download and upload speeds to full strength.
I will keep the group posted if it dies off again.
01-25-2023 06:07 PM
sorry bro at this point there is no solution, google nest just flat out lied about what there product is capable of
01-25-2023 06:10 PM
bro I did this when I first got it lol, put my modem in passthrough bridge mode turned packet filter off, disable the firewall to avoid double nat, everything, used those same dns servers in the google home app, did absolutely nothing for me
01-25-2023 06:20 PM
same for me...ugh. The next test Google support asked me to do was to turn off and unplug every devices using it. Which is very hard in our house because we have about 50 devices...between cameras, hubs, speakers, thermostats, temp sensors, secure, protect, outlets, computers, lights, mobile devices, games, door bell, door lock, roomba, garage door, washer/dryer, fountain, stove, and probably stuff that I have forgotten about.
01-24-2023 01:05 PM
I have the same issue. Our AT&T Gateway gets 997 download and 943 upload. The Google Nest router is plugged directly into it but when I test the speed of the router, it is 521 download and 121 upload.
01-25-2023 06:06 PM
thats pretty amazing because I have : ATT fiber 999 download and 967 upload, but the nest is giving me only, 550 download and 125 upload, isn't it a little suspect that our numbers are almost the same? crazy google throttle
01-25-2023 06:14 PM
This is very suspect. No matter what I have done, not passthrough, passthrough, changing settings, changing cables but I only had a Cat5e and the cat6 is coming tomorrow, turn off all devices and the it stays about 500ish down and 121 up each time....interesting that you have the same issue. Normally, I connect my PC directly to the gateway but now I connected it to the router and ran the speed test, 990+ down and 800+ up. so why can I connect my PC to the nest router and get those speeds but when I test with the google home app or the google wifi app, I get the 500ish down and 121 up?
01-24-2023 02:06 PM
Did you used cat5e or cat6 cable between your isp modem and Google Wifi?
01-24-2023 02:08 PM
it is the one that came with the Google Nest Router which, I think, is Cat6.
01-24-2023 02:25 PM - edited 01-24-2023 02:26 PM
Hmmm; I had the same problem, but another network cable solved my issue. But I also changed the DNS settings (see my post above). Maybe it was the combination of those changes?
01-24-2023 02:29 PM
I can try both and see what happens. Thanks
02-13-2023 01:04 AM
highly doubt it, I have done all that an much more, changed many different dns servers, power cycle between all the changes, my gateway is in bridge(passthrough mode) all the correct settings applied, still nothing changes, im getting 994 DL and 925 UL to my gateway modem, but the nest router only gets 500ish DL and 120ish UL, no matter what I do! tried all the preferred activities setting combinations, I mean there is nothing else that can be done, but one time! one!! time!!, I got 980 DL and 890 Upload from the nest router! so I know it can do it!! its the google throttling, OBVIOUS!
01-24-2023 02:16 PM
Just to add, I have a AT&T Gateway with 1 gig fiber. I have turned off the wifi on it and plug the Nest Router directly into the Gateway port. I also have my PC plugged directly in a Gateway port and it gets 795 download and 893 upload. If I run a speed test using the Google Home app for the Nest router, I get 521 download and 121 upload. I have ran multiple tests and they are always around those numbers.
01-24-2023 04:10 PM
So, I went into the gateway and set it to passthrough to the nest router and then plugged my PC directly into the router. I also adjusted the settings on the nest router to the suggest settings. The speed test on the PC are 912 down and 826 up but if test the speed of the router using the google home app, it shows 506 down and 121 up. Seems odd that my PC can get a faster speed, while connected to the router, than the speed of the router (according to the google home app)
01-24-2023 04:25 PM
I used cat5e from modem to Nest not the supplied cable.
01-24-2023 04:35 PM
I have ordered a new cat6 cable to swap out also so we will see.
01-24-2023 07:43 PM
I'm not convinced the cable is the key, but more the WiFi being transmitted on both the Modem and the Nest device. Try turning off the wifi on your modem first.
01-24-2023 07:45 PM
The WiFi is disabled on the gateway.
01-25-2023 07:20 PM
in theory the Cat5e should work since it is up to 1 Gbps but the Cat6 is up to 10
02-13-2023 12:59 AM
wires are not the problem bro, its google throttling, I know this because, 1 time I got 940 DL and 850 UL from the google nest, but after that always the same , 500 DL and 120 UL, so the nest router can handle 1 gig, but the won't let it! thus the google company is throttling!
