Google wifi is providing half the speed of my modem’s wifi. App shows no other usage, no mesh issues

I have 400 mbps internet. My phone is showing 190 on a speed test app I installed. If I change to my modem’s wifi I stead of Google Wifi I get over 400.

This is not correct behavior. I looked in the Google Home app and ran a mesh test with no issue. I see the Google wifi is receiving 445 mbps download.

The whole reason I bought Google wifi was to improve speed and reliability. Why on earth is it slowing me down? Can I correct this or get a refund?

Its soured me on Google Devices.  I had the original Nexus Tablet, a Pixel XL, a Pixel XL 3 and currently a Pixel Pro 6.  Will I be buying a google tablet or smart watch? NO!  I'll really have to consider whether to purchase a google phone again.

Google isn't going to do anything unless they are forced to. They took a bunch of people's money for something that was falsely advertised. They had time to make it right, now they should pay for it!

I filled out the form a year ago, and was never contacted.  I finally gave up and replaced them.

HI Dan,

I filled in the form again. Last year I was asked by Google to do so, so I did.

But as expected: nothing other than "it's on your side not any fault by Google" but I hope you can see that we are not all in this community because we enjoy this... There is a problem by many people around the globe and we are experience all the same issue and the only comparable = Google. So if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck...

I replaced my Google WiFi with a TP link system of the same spec and now have normal speeds.

There is no way the issue is on client side.

Other users, like me, gave up weeks or months ago after this thread and complaints to Google went unanswered for months or even years. I already purchased a replacement router and mesh system from a different manufacturer, which works just fine at full ISP speeds.

What I seek at this point is a reimbursement for either my Google WiFi system or the alternate system I purchased.

Can you share with us which devices you are using now?

I haven’t buy a new device yet, so I am just back to my ISP router and have reduced coverage within the house.

I am also thinking a reimbursement is the right approach from Google, specially considering this issue was identified years ago and has not been fixed.

I am wondering if this is a HW issue instead of a FW issue, which means they sold a product that can’t achieve the specs they claim it should achieve.

Following a recommendation from someone else on this thread, I purchased the TP-Link Deco AX3000.

I did as well - it works great.

Tp link deco M4.

Prime day is comming up , will get a great deal then.

I went with a discounted Deco X20 Ax-1800 three set kit. Plugged them all in, setup using the TP-Link app and now have 100% speed throughout my house. Surprisingly the ping is also less than 5ms too. Took less than 30mins to setup and have been rock solid since.

Got this after allowing Google to monitor my network for 90min

"

We have reviewed the diagnostic report and found a huge dominant error that indicates that the parent point has a hard time obtaining an IP address from the upstream device.  We suggest FactoryReset your entire network and re-set up a brand new WiFi network.

We recommend swapping your primary Google Wifi router with the child point Google Nest Wifi router as the new primary Wifi point.

Once a new network has been established, observe and monitor the network performance for 24 to 48 hrs."

What would the difference make if i change my points from "parent/child"?

I already tried that but ok. Swapped and still 170mbps of 500mbps..

Bit the bullet and went for a different system. Netgear Orbi AX6000.  Now get close to 800 from the router and 650 from remote points over wifi. Up from 400 from google router and 110 from google remote points over wifi. Google wifi is not fit for purpose and they shouldn't be able to sell this product.

We should file a law suit regarding this situation. Falsely advertising a product that makes your WiFi worse. I have 3 mesh in a 2000sqft home. And paying for 500mbps. I am literally getting 1mbps. Like WTF. I want to replace to a different mesh system, but I spent all this money for the Google mesh.

I totally agree.

Although I already switched to an other brand (best decision ever!).

It's unbelievable that they know it, and yet do nothing (except saying it is your fault not Google's)

Which system did you go with! I might have to bite the bullet and switch as my partner and I work from home and can’t be having WiFi issues all the time.

I switched to orbi ax6000 3 pack 2 days ago. More on the expensive side of the mesh systems but worth every cent. My google wifi will probably end up in the bin. I can’t conscionably give it to anyone even for free. It’s next to useless.
