I need to be able to force one of my Google Wi-Fi mesh networks to ONLY transmit 2.4ghz

A lot of my smart devices won't connect to Google wifi without having a dedicated 2.4ghz band. I can't move all my devices (like my EV charger) to the max range for 2.4ghz.

Please make this an advanced setting so I can properly manage all my smart devices.

Hello @Deken

I would love to see a more useful feature for onboarding 2.4GHz devices. But, just to clarify a bit, you don't need to have the 2.4GHz-only device far away – you only need your phone to be far enough away to drop back from 5GHz to 2.4GHz itself. You may find turning off WiFi on your phone entirely, then moving away, then turning WiFi back on may result in it joining 2.4GHz. At that point, you may be able to get your EV charger set up. This may require a helper, if any controls on the device need to be interacted with.

To be clear, though, this isn't required for most 2.4GHz-only devices. Most, in fact, have no issue getting connected to a network like this with multiple bands on a common SSID (I have a bunch, for example, and have never needed to do anything special). But, there are a handful of 2.4GHz-only devices that were built using flawed assumptions about what modern networks look like, and those assumptions are increasingly problematic as more networks move towards common SSID.
