Hi Fernando2,

Thanks for posting — let's sort this out.

Quick question; have you tried to reboot your router? How far is the Google Home from the router? Could you try rebooting the lights and Google Home once the router is done rebooting?

Keep me posted.

Thanks Nikki for your response. The router is in the same room and never showed problems when internet was up. I tried rebooting the router (as always seems to be the solution) but did not think about rebooting the lights and/or speakers since it would take me a while. So I should be able to see and operate all my lights and speakers when internet is down, right?

Hey Fernando2,

Thanks for the update.

Google Home devices are Wi-Fi dependent so it will not work properly if there's no internet connection. Once you establish your connection, try saying " OK google, sync my devices".

Tank you Alex, yes I am struggling to understand how if my speakers and my source of music (cellphone or pc) or my switches and lights are all  connected to an internal WiFi network there is a need for the network to have an active internet connection in order to operate. When I lose internet due to a internet provider failure, even thought my WiFi works just fine, I cannot listen to music and even worst I cannot turn on or turn off my home lights!.

Thanks

Hi Fernando2,

We understand. Google Home requires an active internet connection in order to work. This means you need to connect Google Home to Wi-Fi before you can use it to play music or control your smart lights and switches. If your Google Home isn’t reaching the internet very well, you might find that:

  • Music playback isn’t very smooth, or music starts and then immediately freezes.
  • Google Home says “something went wrong, try again” way too often.
  • Google Home says: "can't control light or lights are not available at the moment" or "your devices are offline".

Regards,

Alex
