My Nest WiFi point is also randomly going offline

Dear lord, my wifi drops about 4 or 5 times a day for 10 minutes at a time.  Sometimes it requires a hard reset.

Half the posts on this board are about this exact issue and Google fails to respond.

So I guess the next question is, what is a reliable mesh solution I can upgrade to?

I can't see ever buying Google products again as there is zero support and you are just on your own if things go wrong.

Hello there,

It looks like we've slowed down here. We'll be closing up the thread in the next day unless anyone else has any input or needs anything else. If so, just let me know and we can keep this open a bit longer.

Cheers,
Lovely

I have had exactly the same problem for the last 6 months or so. Now it just doesn’t work - it keeps taking itself off the network and factory resetting itself. (Don’t think that’s happening in any sort of intelligent way - it’s just completely failing.)

Mine is *just * outside of warranty <furious face>
If yours is still within the 2 year warranty, I would strongly encourage making a warranty replacement claim immediately.

Better mesh? I would *love* to know what some good options are.

Also, I have only just started getting into understanding the newish “Thread” and “Matter” standards. What each does, how it might alleviate the need for wifi points in dead zones (I.e. if ioT devices can still connect by extended the reach through themselves - ??) e.g. Apples new full sized Homepod supports Matter. Google Nest devices have thread - I think?? But not sure what that really means and which ones.

It’s worth looking at. And of course the new Google wifi pro devices support wifi6 - but I believe they lose the speaker function in a wifi point by adding wifi6)

Anyway - good luck, hopefully some other knowledgeable folk can help things along further.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes. You may skip this step if you’ve done it already.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data. You may use the same network name and password so that your devices reconnect automatically.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Abi
