Nest WiFi & Point

Dizkarded1

My Nest WiFi speed is half of my ISP. If I connect anything directly to the ISP Fiber modem the speed is correct. If I do a full reset on the Nest (including rebooting the fiber modem) it gets the full speed for a short time and then goes back to half, Meanwhile, my Nest WiFi Point keeps dropping connection all together. Only way to get it back is unplugging and replugging.

This situation has been going on since I bought it and I am told that Google knew about it and fixed it. At this point I am thinking I would like to get my money back and get something that works.

try unplugging your fiber modem as well.

lighx, thank you for the reply. I should have stated in my post that that was one of the first things I tried. But thank you anyway.

Hey there,

Appreciate your helpful response, @lighx.

@Dizkarded1, thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes. Skip this part if you've done this already.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will remove all network data.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Abi

I have tried these steps multiple times. The only thing that works (temporarily) is a factory reset, but within a few days the problems are back.
