How do I delete devices from google wifi

crwilson1

On the google home app, I am wanting to delete a bunch of devices that are called "Unnamed device". There was another thread from over a year ago where other people had this issue as well. Can we get a way to delete devices from the network manually, rather than having to wait for it to automatically delete?

Also, the google app is very primitive. It takes too many clicks to get things accomplished, such as setting ip reservations. There aren't many options like you have on other routers. Are ya'll planning on making a version that is more powerful, and hopefully available by typing in the ip address of the router on a web browser, rather than having to use an app?

I tried to use a different router as the main router and switch the google pucks from NAT to Bridge, but when I do that, it seems as though I lose my ability to utilize the mesh network capability. I'm assuming that I at least have to have 1 google puck as the DHCP server, then all the others can be in bridge mode and have the mesh network. But using a different router (nighthawk, cisco, etc...) that assigns the ip address and all the google pucks in bridge mode disables mesh capabilities. Is this correct? If so, can that be changed, since the google app is not very powerful?

Really do appreciate your response, but regret that it's inadequate, and here's why:

* Currently, there are 17 grayed-out/offline items listed under my gHome Wifi Primary Network devices list. 8 are for devices currently powered off, the rest are devices named "iPhone 6",  "2nd gen iPad" and "Wyze Cam V1" that were long ago sent to the giant recycling bin in the sky, but yet, their memory lives on.

* A couple of years ago, I did have a device fall off the list. I liked the name and tried to reuse it. Couldn't. Tech support asked if I had ever had a device with the same name in the past. They let me know that once the device fell off the list, so did the ability to reuse that name. Now I take care to rename "offline" devices no longer in commission in the event the device maintenance system does work and removes a device, I don't lose access to the name without having to reset and then reconfigure my entire Google Wifi network.

* The link I posted identical to this OP's question is 3 years old! Please don't be cross if don't hold my breath until this feedback is taken into consideration for future updates.

I like my Google Wifi system. A lot. Recommended it to many in the beginning. But in the age of IOT, rampant cybersecurity threats, and accelerating HW upgrade cycles, your unwillingness or inability to afford me direct control over devices with a presence on my network is unacceptable.

Last time I did a factory reset, it took me 2 days to reconfigure everything-- device naming, reserved ip addresses, port forwarding-- and I know what I'm doing! My next reset will be my last reset unless you can find a way to act on this long-standing feedback and actually improve the product.

Couldn't have put it better myself. This has long been a frustration of mine. I have tons of old/inactive devices (especially virtual machines long since deleted from a Hyper-V based home lab) that are still in the list.

I would love to be able to have some easy swipe to delete this device (and clear DHCP reservation) type option in the UX. I have had a 2 device setup until recently with the rear camera (google) and doorbell (Ring/Amazon) complaining of poor network signal that I reluctantly solved by adding a 3rd device. My reluctance was purely because I wasn't sure if I wanted to replace the entire thing with https://amplifi.com/ from Ubiquiti.

The inability to have a reasonable conversation with product group and vote on features is somewhat frustrating. I don't hang out here often so I don't know if the actual folk developing the software for Google Wi-Fi hangout here.

@AbigailF we are well aware of the option to reset the device and re-setup everything. I cannot quite believe how blasé you were in that response. Do you or your loved ones regularly reset various home electronics like its a completely normal thing to do in life on a day to day basis?

Is this your personal recommendation or are we to take this as the official response from Google?

All we want is some official acknowledgement from Google, and perhaps a trackable link in a bug/feature request list showing it been triaged and voted on with a view to address it in a future release. Right now for all intents and purposes its like screaming into the void.

Thanks @Jhonleanmel . Sounds promising.

What is taking so long for this update that the community has been requesting for going on years now? This has been an issue since I purchased the mesh system multiple years ago and the internet is riddled with questions on how to remove devices? Is google not going to fix this? Let us know so we can make better informed decisions when upgrading our mesh networks.

Hey Jeebs,

We do see people asking about this from time to time. As of now, there's no way to manually edit the list and devices simply need to drop off on their own. Most devices will disappear after a time if they do not connect to the network again, but any connections will reset their time before falling off. Due to some devices using things like MAC randomization, however, they can create multiple device listings in the connection history, and it can make that list get a little unreliable. I can submit to our teams a feature request on this to allow users to manually edit the list, but as of now I haven't seen it planned as an added feature.

Aside from submitting the request, is there anything else I can do for you on this?

Thanks,
Jeff

So now that you have had ample time to communicate this issue to your team, what was the response?

Still no response from your team?

Kidding right? The issue at hand of allowing individual devices to be deleted raised in this thread really couldn't be clearer, but you're free to ignore or deflect as you see fit. I hear Wyze has a new killer mesh router anyway.

Hello, not being able to delete devices from ones wifi mesh is extremely frustrating.  The point that was made about devices falling off network after 60 or 90 days is inaccurate.  I have ipads that that have been recycled over a year ago and it still shows up on my devices.

Hi folks,

I'm sorry for the delayed response. We don't have an ETA for this feature yet, but I've already submitted a follow-up about it to our team. I've also added your reports about offline devices that are still showing up in the network even after 60 days of inactivity.

We'd appreciate it if you could share your feedback about this directly with our product team. Check out this article, as I'll be locking this thread within 24 hours.

Thanks,
Lovely
