Nest Not Performing (Speed Issue?)

DannyT

Can someone help me figure out how I can get the most out of my Google Nest Wifi?

I have 970mbps to my modem on a 1000mbps connection. > Hard Wired Modem to my good nest router on main floor > and I have one google nest point in my bedroom (second floor)

My wifi card in my computer is capable of 1750mbps. Google states their hub is capable of 1733mbps. (Google also states that one router and one point covers up to 3800sqft and my house is less than that.)

Yet my computer is only getting 1/10th of that speed! (at around 110mbps)

While I don't expect the full 970 over wifi I'd be happy to get even half, heck even a quarter of that to my wifi?! 250-500 Is what I think would be reasonable... not 100?

When I run a router test through the google home app it says my  speed is-> 877down/833up (even on my s22 Ultra - speedtest dot net says 83mbps (eighty-three - not a typo), when the google home app says 877mbps in the exact same spot, right in front of my hub.)

... Any suggestions... As to why I'm not getting the appropriate speed on any of my devices?

Hey, DannyT.

Sorry that you have not been getting the speeds you're expecting on your network. That can be very frustrating to deal with. We have a help article that runs through all the different things you can look at or try or check on your network to make sure you're set up in the most efficient manner. You can see that article here: https://bit.ly/39GZJfD.

If you have run through those steps and still aren't seeing any improvement, let me know.

Thanks.

Hi, everyone.
Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

didn't seem to help much. Hardwired and standing right in front of the main google router I'm only getting 50% of the speed that my ISP Router is getting. and my access point is only get 10% of my ISP router.

Sorry to hear that, DannyT.

I have some things for you to check out real fast.

  • Do you have IPv6 enabled? If so, try disabling it and see how it impacts the speed test. You can change that in the Home app WiFi settings.
  • Do you have any preferred activities set up in Home?
  • Can you do a test where you run the speed test, put a device on as the priority device, and then run the test again to see if it changes anything?

Thanks. I'm sorry it's been a frustrating experience for you, but we can get this worked out.

Thanks for the help Jeff.

I had IPv6 enabled. Ran a test and got 70mbps down on my point.

... I disabled IPv6 and ran a test, got 72mbps down on my point.

The only preferred activity I have set is zoom calls.

I set my computer as a priority device and ran a test and got 61mbps. (I found that strange, as when I do NOT set it as a priority device it gets 70mbps)

... still scratching my head though because hardwired to my ISP's Router I get 900+mbps...

Thanks for running those tests, DannyT. It's helping paint a more complete picture for us.

I'm definitely just going to have to take this to an internal team and see what more they can suggest here. I'll report back when I have more to share on this. Sorry for the frustration.

Hi again, DannyT.

I know it's been a while, but I have yet to find a solution for this. I'm still working with an internal team to see what answers we can find. As it's been a while, is there anything that has changed on your end either for better or worse? Let me know how things are going.

Thanks,

- Jeff
