Nest Protect Won’t Connect to Nest Wi-Fi Pro

Updated to Nest Wi-Fi Pro a couple days ago and since then I can’t connect to two of my Nest Protects. When I go to update the network settings, using either my iphone or iPad, the Protect gets stuck in the “connecting” phase until the Protect times out. Tried resetting the one of the offline Protects and a similar thing happens when I go to reconfigure it. When it gets to the phase of using one of the online Protects to add the “new” Protect, the same thing happens - it gets stuck in the connecting phase until the helper device times out. Used an Airport Extreme before and everything worked perfectly. You’d think Nest devices would work seamlessly with Nest Pro Wi-Fi. The Nest Thermostat works fine.

Hey dtgarfield,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

I am having the same issue.  Recently purchased 3 nest wifi pro's and set them up throughout my new home.  I am now trying to setup 2 nest protects I had previously purchased and used at my old home.  I factory reset both protects and I am unable to get them to connect to my wifi.

IPv6 turned off
DNS is set to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
I have a xfinity wifi router bridged to a nest wifi pro
I tried setting up within the nest app and used my nest thermostats to help connect and it didnt work.
Created a new "Home" in the nest app and tried to set up the protects that way, didnt work either.
i've restarted my network, phone, and factor reset the protects and tried again, still no luck.

Hi Keyth13,

I'm sorry to hear you're also having this issue. To confirm, do you have any paused devices?

Abi
