Nest WiFi Pro - Sporadic mesh nodes going offline

NYCHitman1

Hello,

I am finding that my newly acquired Nest WiFi Pro (3-pk) units have these sporadic moments where one of the nodes (or multiple) go offline for extended periods of time. My spouse and I work from home and it has the habit of doing it in the middle of the work day when we're on calls. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, did you fix it?

Could really use some guidance.

Observing the same issue. Mesh points go offline with slow blinking yellow. SW version:1.63.327820.

On my two units that are Ethernet backhauled, there's no issue. Only my wireless unit which I have in my living room has the problem still (albeit sporadically). Would love to hardwire that unit too, but don't want to drill holes.

Hi, all.

We're seeing a few people starting to post resolutions to their problems. I just want to check in and see who is still struggling and if you have already tried the steps suggested by other members. If you have tried those things and still have the same problems, please let me know here.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I haven't seen any resolutions posted in this thread. Are you referring to others? If so, I honestly haven't checked because there are so many threads on this community.

Google replaced my 2 node set under warranty for link failures + Weak wi-fi performance on the Wi-Fi  Point.  Replacement setup did not improve coverage, though the wireless link did not drop if I limited unit separation to two rooms. I believe the limiting factor is the 6 GHz back haul's ability to penetrate walls resulting in far less coverage that I received with the original Nest Wifi.  The wireless signal strength is also weaker than the original Nest Wifi.  No problem in an open area but one or two walls can really attenuate the signal.  As an example, I tried the Nest Wifi Pro's Wifi Point two walls and 10 feet from the desired device location and noted a very weak signal using devices and a cellphone based wifi analyzer as a relative measurement device. At the same location, the wifi analyzer indicated my neighbor's Spectrum provided wifi signal sourced two walls and 60 feet away was +20dB stronger than the Nest Wifi Pro's Wifi Point.  Plainly, the wireless back haul link setup and the wireless radios are just plain weak.

Thanks for your feedback. I placed one of the points just 12ft away from the main router without any obstacles in between and rebooted. Great connection for 30 mins and after that same issue. Offline and slow yellow light flashing. If distance was the main factor then I would not expect this. May be some issue with the wireless backhaul link error rate or HW.

I was able to find the root cause and reproduce the issue 100%. I have the Disney circle device through the T-Mobile Family mode feature. This device connects to my home network for advanced parental control. I checked some network logs and observed latency events and those goes away as soon as I disable the circle device. That also immediately brings back my points online. If I enable Circle again then latency events are observed and points go offline. As a workaround, I have disabled the circle device for now.

Circle compatibility page online showing it is compatible with Google wifi and Google Nest. I guess Google needs to work with Circle to make Nest pro compatible with Circle. My previous google wifi and Nest router were working with the same Circle device for years. I found a similar issue was reported earlier for some new Orbi systems and Orbi provided a firmware update to fix it. I will report to Google through my ticket and hope for a solution.

After dealing with this for several months - and multiple support calls to Google which had limited effectiveness - I just wired all my wifi points and haven't looked back. Disappointing... sure. But everything's working now so I'm not thinking about it anymore. Good luck to all who are dealing with this!

Hello everyone,

@Kansanman, @stefansowder, thanks for reaching out. I want to check if your Google Nest Wifi Pro devices are still going offline. Please perform a 2-minute reboot on your entire network. You may also try changing the DNS and if that fails, factory reset your devices before configuring them again.

Let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,
Lovely

This just happened to me about moments ago. Received a notification via my phone stating that Nest 2 was offline and then Nest 1 went offline 30 minutes later. Nest 2 automatically connected back to the internet. Nest 1 continue showing offline in the Google Home app after refreshing it a few times. I went to Nest 1 and asked it a question. It responded as intended. I unplugged Nest 1 and reconnected seconds later. The app then indicated a great connection with all points online. Haven’t had any previous issues and the mesh system has been connected for about a year with no issues.

Hi red49gold,

Apologies for the delay. That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have. Have you tried the steps provided above? If so, how was it?

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

Dan
