Nest WiFi Router dropping wired connection

Hi, I have a Nest Router as Primary wifi point with 2x Gen 1 Google Wifi points to complete the mesh in my house running fine. I recently put an office space in at back of garden with very weak mesh connection so have wired in another Nest Router connected from primary Nest router via cat 6 LAN cable. This works well for about 1 - 2 hours, the Home app displayed the router as wired, but then keeps switching back to mesh for no apparent reason at which point my wifi/internet speed in the garden office is terrible due to distance. Why does the wired connection keep switching to mesh after a few hours? Any advice on how to solve would be great!

How have you wired it all up? All Nest Wifi points runs wired backhaul? It should be a dumb/ unmanaged switch behind the primary node, then all secondaries connect straight to that dumb switch. No daisy chaining, and no smart/ managed switches. More info:

What switch do you have?

I don't work for Google.

Hi Thanks for the response, I am not using a switch so set up is;

Virgin media ISP router in modem mode -> primary nest router -> 2nd Nest Router. Connected via cat 6 Cable using the ports on the routers. Also running Google wifi gen 1 as mesh points. All working fine apart from the second wired router which I just added. It keeps frequently switching from the wired connection  to mesh connection resulting in virtually no speed as a very weak connection on mesh given distance from the house. The periods it does revert back to the wired connection speed is perfect.

Is it a setting somewhere?  Will a switch make a difference? I’m not an expert at this sort of stuff and so far up to this point it’s been simple plug and play with the Google Wifi setup.

How far are all the points from each other? Sometimes having too many nearby will cause interference.

Also , I hate to even ask, but is the cat6 cable firmly plugged in at both ends, did it click?

Hi the wifi points are at different ends of the house, primary router front of house, Google wifi point c10m away at back of house and one in a loft room again 2 flights above. It’s all worked well for about a year+ and continues to do so. The issue is now the new nest router added about c30m away in a garden office - mesh is very weak but does connect, hence the cat 6 cable connection. I checked the patch cable connections at each end and they are good, i even tried different patch cables in case one of those was an issue but the problem was consistent on both set of cables.
Update: I’ve now bypassed my primary nest router, and connected directly into the back of the Virgin Media router (now put back into router wifi mode from modem mode) and set up the new Nest router as a new primary network. It’s working so at least now I have internet connection where I didn’t before. Only issue is I now have 2 separate networks which I can live with for now, and will see if any drawbacks as I start to use it.

Hey, DG1.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know what worked for you. Just as a follow up, I wanted to check in to see if you wanted any more help on this. I know the dual network setup isn't ideal, so I'm happy to keep looking at this with you. Let me know if you needed anything else here.

Thanks.
