Nest WiFi not working correctly on Android phone

Nickwolfenstein

Hi,

My girlfriend and I are having problems with nest WiFi. The WiFi speed test on Google home shows up as 0mbps up and down speed, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube etc do not work when connected to WiFi however every other app seems to be working fine.

I have ran a separate test through Ookla speed test and it shows full speed of approximately 40mbps. This is quite annoying as the apps listed above tend to be the most used on our phones.

I will add that everything works if we switch to mobile data. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the nest WiFi on our google home and this has not rectified the issue, ipv6 is disabled, I have tried activating and deactivating as many settings as I can to see if anything sorts it to no avail.

Please help!

P.s. my girlfriend has a Samsung s21 ultra 5g and I have the new pixel 7 Pro.

Hey there,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  1. If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6.
  5. Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper
  6. right.
  7. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  8. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Hi Nickwolfenstein,

Chiming in to ensure everything is good here. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Hi everyone,

I tried all the above, the only measure I couldn't do was put my ISPs (talk talk) router into bridge mode, as this isn't an option in the settings, however I disabled the WiFi when I originally set up the nest WiFi, so other than that, no settings on the talk talk router were changed. However all the other steps e.g. the DNS settings and turning it off for two minutes after these settings were changed has seemed to have sold the issues. I thank Jhonleanmel greatly as this was bugging me for a while. Hopefully it continues to work fluidly from now on.

Hey Nickwolfenstein,

I'm happy to hear that it's working better now. I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Please let me know if you are still having any concerns or questions from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks,
Abi
