Nest Wifi / Speed Tests Failed / AT&T Fiber

Hi all. I'd like to continue the conversation started in the thread

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Nest-Wifi-regularly-disconnects-then-reconnects-Spe...

I have been using the original Google WiFi pucks since they were first released. I have rarely succeeded in having a successful internet speed test. They all fail. And it typically knocks my service offline and I must restart my fiber modem to restore service.

I have since replaced my fiber modem and upgraded the pucks to the Nest Wifi Routers. Strangely, I am having the same issues. I am using a BGW210-700 modem and subscribe to full gigabit speed.

I have isolated the issue to the speed test that automatically runs every day or two. When I turn off cloud services in the wifi app, my service runs without issue. I would, however, like to use the cloud services.

I have enabled passthrough and turned off firewall settings on the modem.  I have completely restarted the network, modem and ONT. I have done factory resets over and over. This has been going on for almost 5 years now.

It seems that in my current combination that the speed tests do not knock me offline but they still consistently fail. I can see the results of each execution if I look in the Internet tab.

I there anything else that I might check?  Google support points to AT&T and at&t points back to Google. I just want it to work like it's supposed to.

Thank you for reading!

Chris

See thread below and good luck.

I Chased my nest wifi issues for months. It's the Nest wifi router. My 1gb internet service was absolutely unusable on this router and it started 4 or so month ago. Worked fine for almost 2 years then 4 months ago wired connections were fine but wifi was unusable.  Gave up after months of no support from Google on this issue. See similar stories below

Thank you for the response.  I worked with Google and AT&T support in 2017 on this same issue.  The Google tech told me that on the speed tests, they tend to hit the YouTube servers to give a more accurate speed test result.  The download speed typically gives close to the maximum download rate for Fiber (920Mb) but the upload speed rarely goes above 100GB.  It typically hovers around 80 - 90.

I'm guessing that this will be an ongoing issue with these pucks.  I've had the Nest Wifi pucks running for about 3 days now and haven't been knocked offline.  There was an automatic speed test that ran 2 days ago without issue.

If I can keep the Cloud Services running without having to restart the network and modem every day then i'm ok with that.

Best of luck to you in your wifi journey.

Hi, Chickman72.

It looks like you have a good grasp on what's been happening. It's been a while since we had any activity here, so I wanted to check in to see if you needed anything on this or if you're all set with things. Let me know if there's anything we can do.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Hey, everyone.
It looks like we've slowed down here again. We'll be closing up the thread unless anyone else has any input or needs anything else. If so, just let me know and we can keep this open a bit longer.
Thanks,

- Jeff

Hi

Unfortunately, the only fix that I could find is to upgrade to the latest Nest Wifi pucks.  I still get the same speed test failures but at least it doesn't kill my internet access.

There is likely no need to keep this open unless folks know how to fix these speed tests.

Hey, Chickman72.

I know the issue is being looked into, but I don't have any information on a possible time frame for a fix. I understand it's frustrating, and I'm sorry about that. I'll close the thread for now, but if any separate issues pop up, definitely go ahead and open up a new thread. Any fixes released will apply to your devices automatically as well.

Thanks,

- Jeff
