Nest Wifi internet issues - partly no internet

Palle
Community Member

I have issues since 19 feb 2023 with internet. Randomly I loose internet but some sites still partly work. When I go to sites I get "Safari cannot can't` connect to server" message. If I try to reload the request couple of times, then I works sometimes, just to not work again a while later.

I have been in contact with my ISP and they couldn't find any issues.

When I have problem on wifi I tried to connect with cable directly to house main fiber-dose and there is no problem there.

Any ideas?

Hey there Palle,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about your issue. A few questions: which sites do you have problem accessing? Does this happen for all client devices or just one specific device? We'll wait for your update.

Abi

This happens on all kinds of random webpages that do not respond, It can be even google.com or other pages, but after som time triyng it might just start to work again. This happens on all clients connected to the same wifi.

Hello Palle,

Thanks for the update. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6.
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi

Hi,

I do not use modem/router combo, my Google nest wifi is connected to fiber-converter. The nest units are placed in good places with good contact between each other. I do not have any special characters in password.

Other resets och restarts did not help. But now I didn't have this issue for some days.

What helped last time this issue occurred was to flip IPv6 on och and then off again.

Hi, it's ok by me to close this thread. My problem has not occurred since I found that I can fix my problem by changing IPv6 to on och back to off. This is still strange as this must be based in some software bug in the nest router, but it's ok workaround.
