Nest Wifi speed and connectivity issues

jsalasko89

I have had a nest wifi mesh system for a few years now and just within the last few months have been experiencing extremely slow speeds and connectivity issues. The only fix I have been able to find is to restart all nest devices. I have followed all troubleshooting steps suggested on the google help pages and have seen no improvement. As of now we are restarting the wifi points several times a day just to get through the workday.

As for the speeds, any test done on a browser, mobile or desktop, I get extremely slow speeds but as soon as I use the google home app to test the speed the system fixes itself for a short period then back to slow speeds not more than an hour later. It seems as though the system knows when you are testing and implements a fix but in real world usage it's terrible.

Please help, I'm ready to through the system in the trash and find a better device.

Hello jsalasko89,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry for this experience.

A few questions: were there recent changes in your network? Are you using a modem-router combo? Is there a switch on your network?

Please give the steps below a try:

  • Ensure that you are using an undamaged Cat 5e or Cat 6 that’s securely plugged in to your modem and Google Nest Wifi Pro.
  •  Ensure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and that the Wifi points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Change your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 on your primary servers and 8.8.4.4 on your secondary servers.
  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set it to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will remove all network data.

Keep me posted.

Sincerely,
Lovely

+1 having the same issue. So frustrating. Did anything work to fix it?

Hey Hotsauce,

This is not the experience that we'd like you to have. Please let me know if you've tried any of the troubleshooting steps above and if that helped or not. I'll be happy to help you further.

Cheers,
Lovely

Same here. I have a gig plan, but not getting the speed. Wired to the google bridge is around 200 and via wifi is around 180. The internet company came today and connected directly to my modem and got the full 1gig speed. Not sure why or what happened recently but it is terrible. I have reset, moved routers and points, changed wifi names, all of the things - with zero improvement. 0.2 seconds away from getting a more reliable non-google product.

I have same isse. I have 4G wireless internet router and three google next units (Earlier version, cylinder but flat not rounded ends. One is cabled to the router and the others via the mesh. At first it was great but in the last month or so I get 1-2 Mbs internet speed off these! The 4G router is clocking 80Mbs and the Google speed test on the Home app is north of 50 but anything connecting to the mesh is down at typically 1-2. I have also tried all the tricks but nothing. Should I bin these and look at mesh products from other manufacturers?

Hi MarkDK,

Apologies for the inconvenience! Just so we’re on the right spot, may we know what troubleshooting steps you have taken for us to know how to handle things from there? Have you tried the steps above?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Dan
