Nest mesh wifi - unable to add port forwarding rules

When I first installed my mesh wifi, I was able to add port forwarding rules with ease.  Now, about a year into the mesh system, I cannot add any new rules, my device list seems to not be updating, and I show devices on the list that do not exist on my network.

I have looked at the other posts regarding this and I do not have a double-NAT system.  My main router devices (Nest router) is connected directly to the ISP modem, and I have 6 or 7 satellite nest devices throughout the house, garage, and shop.  It is a relatively small space, 1900 sf, standard construction home.

I need to be able to update the connected device list at will, and add or remove port forwarding as needed.

Hi mksnyder57,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have, and we apologize for the delay. A few questions to narrow things down:

  1. Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
  2. Which Google/Nest router are we working with?
  3. Have you verified the port numbers you used from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or your router manufacturer?
    1. Note: When customers set up port forwarding, the port number should be specific to the requirement of the app or device.
  4. Do you have any upstream router not in bridge mode?
  5. Are you able to access your service locally?
  6. What device are you trying to do port forwarding with?
  7. Is the device you're trying to port forward connected to a guest network?

A few possibilities come to mind like incorrect port numbers and IP addresses which shouldn't be the case here since you’ve already established port forwarding rules. A power outage may have caused disruption in the connection or maybe an upstream router that is not set in bridge mode.

To start with, you can do a sequential reboot of your entire network and see if that helps, or please perform a 2-minute power cycle on your entire network to re-establish the connection on your connected devices. Here's how:

  1. Disconnect the power from the modem.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
  4. Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
  5. Connect the power cord to the modem then to your router and points.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Dan
