Nest protect wont connect

Hello my nest protect will no longer connect to the internet and just keeps announcing that there is smoke in the kitchen over and over again. I’ve done a factory reset and tried to reinstall the product but the WiFi will not connect. Anyone have a fix?

Hi Silverpalm,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having difficulties connecting your Nest Protect to your Nest app, even though you've factory reset the device. No worries; I'm here to help! Before we get started, I just need some information to assist you better. Can you please answer the next questions?

  • What's the color of the status light?
  • Do you get any error messages when you try to pair the device again in the app?

Knowing this information will allow me to provide you with the best troubleshooting steps.

If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further.

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Silverpalm,

Thanks for your quick response and for the helpful information!

To proceed with the next steps. First, I just have some quick questions for you:

  • Does the Nest Protect continue to sound false alarms while the orange light is on?
  • When did this issue with the Nest Protect first occur?

Also, I recommend proceeding with the security checkup on the device. Here are the steps about how to proceed with the security checkup:

  1. Press the Nest button on a Protect. The blue light should turn on, and it will speak to you.
  2. When it says "Press to test",  press the button a second time.

If you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further.

Best regards,

Nery.

Hi Nery. I will give it a try, however when I try to do anything the false alarm takes over - even when I’m trying to reset. And yes nest is constantly saying “be aware there is smoke in the kitchen …” while flashing orange. I’ll try to run the test

Hi Silverpalm,

Thanks for your reply!

I see, so the Nest Protect has continued to announce the presence of smoke in the kitchen since two months ago, even though there's no smoke. Is there any other Nest Protect in the kitchen? Have you made sure that there is no smoke that is waking up the Protect?

If you haven't identified a cause, it's important to call emergency services. Smoke inhalation can be dangerous, and a professional evaluation is important.
