Nest wifi less than half ISP speed via WiFi or direct LAN

I've looked all over to find a solution or the true root cause, but no luck. My Nest WiFi is showing 900 Mbps from the ISP but I'm only able to get 400 at most from any device. It doesn't matter how I connect: cat5e, cat6, Wi-Fi, through a gigabit switch, directly to main router, etc. only thing I've seen is it's a firmware thing. Before I replace it all for a new brand, any suggestions or ideas from others?

Hi thensrud,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with the low speed on your Nest WiFi. I understand how frustrating that situation can be. But don't worry, I can help. I just need to ask for some information to provide the best solution:

  1. Do you use a modem and router combo?
  2. How often does this issue occur? Does this happen continuously or intermittently?
  3. Were there any recent changes in your network setup?

In the main time, you can try with these steps:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi Settings   Advanced Networking.
  3. Tap DNS.
  4. Select Custom, then enter “8.8.8.8” and "8.8.4.4.”.
  5. Tap Save.

Please let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny

Thanks Jenny.
No recent changes. I use a Cable modem that feeds the main router, then that feeds a unmanaged switch to other devices and the 2nd router in bridge mode.

Note that I tested all kinds of scenarios of cables, switches, no switches, etc and nothing worked.

The home app says my "internet speed" is over 900+ consistently, but all devices AFTER that main router are sub 500 consistently, even if i directly plug in a computer to the main router.

I did change the DNS settings and nothing seems to have changed.

Hi thensrud,

Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to hear that the situation didn't solve after these steps. Don't worry; let's try with other options, please. Connect a computer or laptop directly to the modem and perform a speed test. If possible, connect the old router to the modem and perform a speed test just to compare the speed test results.

You can use https://www.speedtest.net/ to run the first test. The next test can be run on any of the following sites:

Please, after this test, please share the result with me. Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenny

connecting directly to the modem:

speedtest - 730-790 Mbps down, 371 Mbps up

speedofme - (forgot this one)

Modem to old TP Link Archer C7 gigabit router:

speedtest - 650 Mbps down, 371 Mbps up

speedofme - 163 (295 max) down, 205 (209 max) up
