Nest wifi with Starlink connectivity issues

boppyer

Hi,

I'm having the same issues as this topic which didn't seem to get resolved:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/How-to-connect-my-new-Starlink-device-to-my-Goggle-...

Basically, my Starlink device works on and off with my Google Nest Wifi. And I don't know if the fault is with the Starlink connection or with the Google Nest router. The same setup had worked for over a year, but just overnight, they stopped working together. I can use my old 4G TP-Link router with Google Nest Wifi, but for some reason, the Starlink router has stopped working, but doing some digging, it seems like the Google Nest router drops the connection to the Starlink connection in bypass mode. Starlink has replaced my entire hardware but the connectivity issues still seem to be there when I try and connect it to my Google network. They work first time, but then after an hour or so it drops. Any help much appreciated as I'm currently unclear where the actual problem is and which device is causing it.

Hello boppyer,

Thanks for posting — let's get this sorted.

If you haven't already, please put your Startlink router on bridge mode before having your Google Nest Wifi router configured in the Google Home app. Visit this link for more information.

Let me know if that helps.

Lovely

Hi,

I tried that, and it still didn't work. Basically, Google Nest and Starlink do not work together. It use to work but either Starlink or Google changed something with a recent update to cause them not to connect with each other.

I found a solution by connecting my Starlink connection (In Bypass mode) into an old 4G router via the WAN port, then plugging the Google Nest network behind this router, and now it all works how it use to.  But I still don't understand why I had to do this rather than my old setup which didn't need this old router as a in-between.

Hey boppyer,

Sorry to hear about this. There will be an update that will be pushed through all Google Nest Wifi router and Google Nest Wifi points. Hopefully, that will solve the issue with Starlink. If not, please send feedback using the Google Home app so our product team can check out the crash log and diagnostic reports from your Wifi devices. Here's the new firmware:

  • Nest Wifi router: 14150.882.9
  • Nest Wifi point: 1.56.368671

Let me know if you have other concerns or questions.

Thanks,
Lovely

hey,

Thanks for your reply, do you know if those updates can be pushed to the device manually or do I have to wait for them to update on their own? My current router and points haven't been updated yet.

Thanks

Hi Boppyer,

Did you get a resolution?. My problem is exactly the same as yours. My combo worked perfectly and then something changed and now the nest router doesn't play nicely with Starlink.

Hi boppyer,

The firmware update is automatic. We can't manually push the update to your Google Nest Wifi router and point, but to make sure your devices will download it once it is available, make sure to toggle the Nest Wifi Cloud services. Here's how: open the Google Home app > Choose Favorites > Wifi > Tap Network settings > Privacy settings > Turn off Nest Wifi cloud services, then turn it on > Save.

Sincerely,
Lovely

Well I have the same issue and this presents a chicken and egg issue for me. How can I get an update to my google nest when my only internet connectivity is via starlink

Have you got an old router you place between Starlink and the Nest Router? This worked for me:

I found a solution by connecting my Starlink connection (In Bypass mode) into an old router via the WAN port, then plugging the Google Nest network behind this router, and now it all works how it used to.

Internet > Starlink > Old Router (DMZ turned on and pointed to Nest Router ) > Nest Router > Switch

Hi Squirty,

We’re checking back to see if everything’s good here. Have you had the chance to try boppyer's troubleshooting steps? If so, how was it?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Shanono and mattypgee, I took boppyer's advice above and put starlink in bypass mode And separates the nest base and starlink router with an old router (linksys) I had. I also had to delete and reset the whole Google home. Once I did this all good

I've given up and just bought a new ubiquity system. Works perfectly

It's disappointing to say the least. I would have thought Google would have picked up this known compatibility issue with starlink but instead we're left to either use third party hacks to get it working or in your case buy another system. The downside of putting the nest behind another router is you lose functionality like speed testing. Again, just disappointing...
