Paused device showing usage

I have a Nintendo switch for my kids that gets paused each night. However, my nest wi-fi shows upload and download usage (as much as 3GB) during paused times.  What is going on?

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the usage of one device on your network. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

 

  • When did the issue start?
  • Did you manually pause it or is it scheduled?
  • Have you checked if the device could access the internet while it's paused?

 It is paused according to a schedule. We just noticed it last week, but am unsure how long it has been happening. I notice a number of devices in our house that show upload when they are paused but it is small amounts so I assumed this was just background stuff (pinging servers, etc). However, the Switch is showing dramatic upload and download which insinuates more is going on than just some mild background noise.

Thanks for the update. This is interesting. To isolate the issue, could you try to remove the schedule and add it again? Also, you could try manually pausing it instead of waiting for the schedule and check if there's any difference.

I have deleted the schedule and readded it. It will kick in tonight. I will look in the morning to see if the problem persists.

It showed 24Gb after the schedule should have it shut off and I know no one was using it as the whole family was watching a movie on a TV not associated with the switch.
