Replacing NETGEAR router with Google Nest WiFi

I purchased the router and thought it was easy to connect but it has been difficult.  I followed the instructions and keep getting a message, see attached screenshot.  All devices got disconnected and couldn’t get them to connect.  Had to reconnect with the old router.  Any suggestions?  Need help.  I couldn’t find another screenshot but is something about the DSN error.  Have tried multiple times to do the setup but I am so frustrated that I stopped.  Could it be a faulty device?  If so, I don’t see anything in the Google Store account to initiate a return.  Thanks.

Hi neydai,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have, and we apologize for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet service provider (ISP)? Which Google/Nest router are we working with? What device are you using to set up your network (iOS or Android)? Do you have the Internet on your modem?

Here are some additional thoughts and suggestions based on the information you've provided:

1. Double-check DNS settings:

  • While you mentioned trying automatic DNS and public DNS like Google DNS, consider verifying the DNS settings provided by your internet service provider (ISP). Sometimes, these settings can differ from the defaults. Contact your ISP to confirm the correct DNS server addresses for your connection.

2. Try a different device for setup:

  • If you were using a phone or tablet for the initial setup, try using a computer with a wired Ethernet connection to the new router. This can sometimes provide more stable connectivity and offer additional options for configuring DNS settings.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
