Slow google wifi speeds

Stevep

So I have 3 google wifi points connected to sky router with skys 500mb FTTP package.

First google conneted to router via ethernet cable. Other two wired via ethernet and powerlines, powerlines connect around 650mb.

If I use the routers 5mhz I get 300mb plus on the google speedtest online. Through the first google wifi I get 15omb max. The home app states I'm getting 500mb download. Primary google is on fixed IP from router ( 198.168.1.2 )then the google LAN is 192.168.3 onwards for wifi devices. All ethernet connections run from google router. Really don't know where it's going wrong but I'm really disappointed with google wifi ? ?

Anyone any help or suggestions please

Hey Stevep,

Our apologies for the late response. Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet service provider (ISP)? How many devices are getting slow speed from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Turn off IPv6
  • Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,
Abi
