Some Websites Think I'm in Another Country?

Hi, all--for a few months, we've had this spotty, weird issue: Some websites won't open because they think we're in either an unknown country or, just now, in India (we are in the U.S. and have not left the U.S.). We haven't messed with any settings or anything, and my IP address opens 108.31 (which is accurate for where we are in Maryland).

Any ideas?

Hi atamashasky,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! It's completely understandable that this situation has been so confusing and inconvenient for a few months now, with websites incorrectly detecting your location as India or another country despite your being in Maryland, U.S. No worries, I'm happy to help!

To better investigate, please provide the following information:

  • What is the model of your main router? Here’s a helpful article on how to identify the model of your device.
  • Does this location issue happen on all devices connected to your home Wi-Fi (e.g., computers, phones, tablets), or only on specific ones?
  • Are you using any VPN (Virtual Private Network) services or proxy servers on your network or individual devices?
  • What is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Thanks, Jennifer!

  • Does this location issue happen on all devices connected to your home Wi-Fi (e.g., computers, phones, tablets), or only on specific ones? All devices (and if we disconnect a phone from wifi and use its data connection, the website in question will work, just FYI)

  • What is your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?  Verizon FiOS
