Trouble Adding Third Nest Router & Point to Mesh Network - Hardwired House Setup

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue adding a third Nest WiFi router and a WiFi point to my existing Google Nest WiFi network. Here’s a breakdown of my setup and the problem I’m encountering:

Current Setup:

ISP: Hyperoptic (Using their provided Nokia router/modem).

Router Connection: The Hyperoptic router is connected to the internet via the WAN port.

House Layout: My house has 3 floors, and each floor has an Ethernet wall port connected back to the Hyperoptic router via hardwiring.

Hyperoptic Router: It has 4 LAN ports. Three are assigned to the Ethernet wall ports on each floor, and the fourth is connected to my thermostat/radiator hub.

Nest WiFi Configuration So Far:

1. Main Nest Router (Ground Floor):

Connected to the wall via the WAN port.

Works perfectly and provides a great mesh connection.

2. 1st Floor Nest Router:

Connected via the LAN port to the wall Ethernet port (which is wired to the Hyperoptic router).

This also works fine, and the mesh connection is stable.

The Problem:

Adding a 3rd Nest Router (Top Floor):

I’ve tried connecting the 3rd Nest router to the Ethernet wall port (wired to the Hyperoptic router), but I’m getting an error: "Couldn't add device". I followed the same process as the 1st floor, but it doesn’t seem to work.

Adding a Point for Doorbell Connectivity:

I tried adding a Nest WiFi point at the front of the house (since the back Ethernet ports don’t give full coverage to the front). This also didn’t connect successfully. I’m trying to get the mesh to extend far enough to cover my doorbell.

What I’ve Tried:

I’ve checked all cables and ports, reset the devices, and followed the Google Home app instructions. Still, no luck with adding the 3rd router or the additional point.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’ve read through some forums and tried multiple approaches but haven't been able to resolve this issue.

Thank you!

If the Ethernet ports are connected to your hyperoptic router..that's the problem.   Your network config should be hyperoptic - main nest wifi router - network switch - other nest routers / points / devices.

So get a network switch, have your hyperoptic router go to the main wifi router, which will then go into the switch, and plug your Ethernet ports into the switch , which will then fees the rest of your routers and devices.

I'll give that a whirl. Thanks @Ashepherdson
