Two Nest Routers but still getting crappy wifi speed in the next room

I have a Nest wifi system that has worked great the two years we have had it. I recently moved my home office to our second level (Nest is installed in our basement) and I immediately noticed a decrease in speed. I purchased and installed another Nest router in our loft from our ethernet port. I have a wifi point stilling on my desk in the next room and I am still only getting 10% the speed I was getting when my computer was on the main level.

I honestly don't know what I need to do differently to get better speeds. I have three points + two routers in a 4000sf home. It seems like I should have enough coverage to get amazing speeds wherever I am located.

Any one can help provide some ideas on what I should do?

Hi, AshelyThatsWho.

Sorry for the late reply here, but I wanted to check in and see if you were still seeing this issue. We have released a new firmware update that you might have already received, so I want to check in and see if that helped you resolve this, or if you're still having trouble. Let me know and I'll be happy to help out on this if needed.

Thanks.

Hello! I would love more help. I actually ended up returning our additional router because it didn't help with speed performance. I honestly don't know much about setting up two routers, and I don't know if it's even possible with Nest (I read something that led me to believe that it wasn't, which is why I returned it). I have a 4000sf home with one router and three points. Our router is in our basement and we have two points on the first floor and one on the second. The speed from my computer on the second floor sucks. I've moved points around and no success. The only way I can get fast speed is to directly plug into our hardline which is in another room. Are there any other solutions? What am I doing wrong?

Hi again, AshleyThatsWho.

Could you run a mesh test in the Home app and let me know what the results are for each of the points on your network? Tell me what sort of results for what you connection strength on each point?

Thanks.

Hi, AshelyThatsWho.
I just wanted to check in real fast to see if you saw my reply and to find out if you had that info from the mesh test.
Thanks.

Hello Jeff,

Unfortunately I returned the other router because I couldn’t get it to work. When I did have it, I did perform a mesh test and it would register with good connection, however it was using it as a standard point and not as a router, so my speed was still pretty lousy (200mbps versus 8-900 mbps). Like I said before, I don’t know if I understand setting up two routers—I thought if I plugged it in to my CAT6 direct wire, and set it up as a separate network, it would work, but alas it did not provide the speed I was hoping for. Maybe because it was piggy backing off of the other network? At this point, I’ve given up.

Hi, AshleyThatsWho.

I'm sorry we weren't able to work out a solution for you here. I can see it's been a frustrating experience, and I understand why you would return the router in your situation. If there's anything else I can do for you, let me know.

Thanks.
