Unable to add a second point to the mesh

Greg1737

I started with a Nest Wifi Router a and a single point.  They were successfully set up including the mesh.  I then tried to expand the mesh by purchasing an additional point.  I installed the point per instructions, and it shows up as a device, and not a point.  When I go to Google Home/WIFI devices only the original point shows up.  And when I select test mesh, it only tests the router and a single point.  How do I get the router to recognize the second point as a Mesh Point and not a device?

Jeff,

Thanks for getting back to me.  I haven't done any additional troubleshooting.  I don't know where to start.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi, Greg1737.

Thanks for the reply. Could you clarify if this is a Google WiFi point or a Nest WiFi point? There could be a different set of troubleshooting steps to take here depending on which one you are working with.

Thanks.

Jeff,

I'm not sure how to answer that.  The box has google branding on it, both the G on the top and Google on the side.  The device itself has the G on top.  But the box also calls it a "Nest Wifi Add-on point"

Thanks, Greg1737, That's definitely the Nest WiFi point.

So one of the issues we're seeing right now is with iOS. If you're trying to set up the second point to your network using iOS, there is a bit of a workaround that's working for some users. When you set up the point, do it fairly close to your main router and then move the point to where it will be used. There seems to be an issue with proximity that is affecting some setup situations.
Thanks.

Hey, Greg1737.

I just wanted to follow up to see if you tried out setup with close proximity and to see if that helped or not.

Thanks.

Jeff,

I'm a bit of a neophyte so I need a little more detail.  You suggest setting up the second point close to the router.  Its already set up.  So what do I need to do?  Reset it?  If so how?  Or do I need to reset my whole mesh?

Thanks

Hey, Greg1737.
I wanted to check in to see if you were able to sort this out. I realize I missed your question and I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you here. What I was trying to explain was to go ahead and do a factory reset on the devices and then set them up as new, but to do the setup with all devices in the same room together. Once setup completes, take the devices and put them where they will be used. For some setup situations, it's better if they're all near one another during the setup process.

Thanks.
