Unable to connect to mesh network

RegularGuy

Hello,

I’ve attempted multiple times to connect new Nest WiFi router to my mesh network and during the setup process, all goes well until the router attempts to join the mesh network. I immediately receive a message that it cannot connect to the mesh network and no other error code or logging is provided. I currently have 5 routers in the mesh that are all up and running, I’ve factory reset the new router multiple times, and I’ve placed it next to the main router during setup. I don’t know why else this is happening, and I experience the same issue with another 1st gen Google Wifi router that I have.

Hello @RegularGuy,

Thanks for posting in the community.
I understand the frustration of encountering issues while adding your new Nest WiFi router to your existing mesh network. I appreciate your effort in trying to add it on your own, even though it does not connect to the network.

Can you please confirm what type of device you have? Google Nest WiFi Router, Google Nest WiFi Point, or Google WiFi? In the meantime, you can try the steps below:

1. Uninstall the Google Home App and install it again.
2. Forget nearby networks.
3. Power cycle your phone or tablet for about 2 minutes, then try again.

4. Perform a 2-minute power cycle.

  • Disconnect the power from the modem.
  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the child point.
  • Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
  • Connect the power to the modem, then wait up to a minute until the modem fully powers on.
  • Connect the power cord to the Nest point.

5. Make sure your modem is running in bridge mode. If your modem is working as a modem/router combo, that may be causing you not to add your Google device.

6. Keep in mind that adding more Nest points to your network might be detrimental to Wi-Fi performance. We recommend a maximum of five WiFi devices in a single network. You can get more information through this link: How many Nest WiFi or Google WiFi routers or points do I need?

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

Regards,
Jorge

I’ve actually tried with both the Google gen 1 wifi router and the Google nest wifi router. Both encounter the same issue. I also received a new error last week that stated Request Contains an Invalid Argument when attempting to join the new router to the existing mesh network. I also use an unmanaged switch for the cat6 cable from the main Google router to the ATT gateway.

Found the issue and it was due to a loop.
