Google is aware of this.  During the month of April a new firmware will be pushed out to address this.
Mine is acting in a similar matter.  So just waiting for the new firmware.

Ok thank you I’ve now managed to get it connected again but still with weak signal and printer connected again thank god only took 5 and half hours!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Let’s hope they roll the solution out sooner rather that later fingers crossed.

Hi Goldilocks21,

Thanks for the update. Could you tell us the firmware version of your Google Wifi devices? Also, please tell us the speed test results that you're getting.

Thanks,

Edward

I don’t know how to find the version of firmware I have sorry, if you could tell me how to find it please.  My real time usage is 0.5Mbps my upload usage is 0.05Mbps and my average download speed is 509Mbps and average upload is 39Mbps. Hope this helps

Would the version be 2.38.4

Hi, Goldilocks21.

To check the software version, open the Home app. From there, tap the Wi-Fi icon and then the devices icon. Tap on your router and then the gear icon. It will be listed under Wi-Fi Information as the software version number.

Thanks.

Software version: 14150.43.80

Thanks, Goldilocks21.

You're on the newest version, so we'll need to take a look at other causes. When you run a mesh test in the Home app, what are the connection strengths to each of your WiFi points?

They are all weak they used to be great

Thanks for letting me know, Goldilocks21.

Have there been any changes with the network at all that could explain the change in state here? Even anything like adding new devices to the network or moving points around should be considered. Does anything come to mind?

No nothing has changed

Hi Goldilocks21,

Thanks for the update. To isolate the issue, could you also try doing a speed test with your computer while it's connected to your directly to your modem / router?

Thanks,

Edward

Hey Goldilocks21,

I'm checking in to see if you were able to try Edward's suggestion. If that worked out for you, let me know. If you still need help, we can look at other options.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Hi Jeff, no nothing has changed I did a complete uninstall and reinstalled the google nest and did manage to get one of the nests to get a great signal but the others were weak then the one that had a great signal then changed to weak 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Speed test was great on my lap top connected to the router

Google team, are you still monitoring this thread? Same issue as all these people.

Was great system until the firmware update.  Nothing has changed in my house or setup. Blazing fast download speeds from router. Issue is the points, they just randomly bounce between great,  good and weak.

So expensive and so frustrating.

I’ve given up all my connections still say weak no matter what I have tried and I’ve tried loads of things!! 😩😩

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to jump in again and let you know that a new firmware release is going out now to the WiFi routers and points. You won't need to do anything to receive the update and it will install automatically once it's available for your hardware. Over the next 2-3 weeks the update will be pushed out to all users. There are a variety of performance updates and bug fixes in the release, so I'm hoping this clears up the issues you're seeing here. Let me know if you have any questions about the update.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff, thanks for the update fingers crossed it works!!

Hey ChrisInMich,

As of right now I haven't received the updated firmware version number. As soon as I have it I'll post it so everyone can be on the lookout.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks for the update Jeff

Hey folks,

We appreciate your patience, Goldilocks21. Also, your Google Wifi will automatically receive over-the-air updates as long as it's constantly powered on and connected to the Wi-Fi network.

Cheers,

Mel

Thanks Mel my current version is Software version: 14150.43.81 so don’t know whether it has been updated or not

Hey Goldilocks21,

Thanks for the details. That is the latest firmware version for your device which was rolled out last May 2022.

Cheers,

Mel

But a new one is imminently rolling out, correct?

Hi ChrisInMich,

Yes, however, we do not have any news when the exact date for the update is.

Best regards,

Mel

Hey ChrisInMich,

Checking back in should you still have some questions here. Let us know by replying to this thread.

Best,
Mel

Hi Mel, so there will not be another update for my device? AlL my devices are showing weak and have done for a long time now yet when I first installed them I was getting a great signal 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😩😩

Hi Goldilocks21,

Thanks for letting us know and I'm sorry to hear about that ― let's sort that out

Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  2. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  3. Set a custom DNS at 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  4. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  5. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Hey Goldilocks21,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Thanks,
Mel

I don't want to speak for her but reading thru all of the posts on this topic in general, it seems that the moderators keep ignoring a few important facts...

1) this started out of no where earlier this year for many of us... despite no changes to the home setup

2) we can all test and see that our modem is communicating just fine whack we have issues... the issue is always the points

3) You can literally keep them in the same locations and be ok 95% of the time with "great connection". Then,  randomly go to poor, bad, etc.   Sometimes it will fix itself, other times you can reboot one point and it even fixes the other one.

It isn't our houses.  It's the points!

Hey folks,

@ChrisInMich, thanks for the insights and for sharing the steps you made.

The software update is rolling out now. It goes out in waves to devices and everyone will have it within the next 1-2 weeks. It really could land any day and you won't need to do anything to receive the update, it will download and install automatically for you. If you have other questions, let me know.

Thanks,
Mel

Mine just stays constantly on weak no matter what I do but I’m going to try what Mel said a couple of days ago and see if that works but tbh I’m not holding my breath!! 😩😩
