Why do my Nest wifi routers only last a year???

We have had 2 Google Nest wifi die on us now.  Each lasted about a year. 

I will admit the first one's death was because of a lighting storm. This second one no idea. Our local provider went down and when cox got their stuff working again tour second nest wifi was toast.  We have a good serge protector on it. The modem it was hooked too is on the same serger protector and it was fine. 

Any suggestions??  

How to do we prevent this from happening again? 

Is there another wifi router we could use with all our google home/ nest devices??

That's really strange for sure.   I've had both of the nest generations of wifi systems (regular and pro) and have not had any die on me.  

As for what wireless system you can use, really any of the major brands could work, depending on your network layout.   Have any other devices gone bad on you ? If so, could be a power issue you should look into.
