Wifi Upload Throttled

Even with pass-through enabled, my upload speeds are seriously throttled.

 

My last speed test (yesterday): Download = 828 Mbps Upload = 99.1 Mbps

Also performed a complete factory reset.

 

As an aside, my wired connections have 850 Mbps download and 950 Mbps upload over LAN through the same modem/connection.

Hi Doug11,

 

I have a couple of things for you to check real fast. In your advanced networking settings in the Google Home app, do you have IPv6 enabled? If so, can you try turning it off and running a new speed test? Also, see in your DNS settings if you are using custom DNS or automatic DNS.

Ipv6 was on but deactivated it 

DNS is automatic

Hey Doug11,

 

Let's try using Google's Public DNS settings to see if that improves things for you. Most likely you are using the DNS settings provided by your ISP. Here's a quick guide on the Google DNS: https://goo.gle/2V5k344.

 

You'll access this through those same advanced networking settings where you viewed that they were set to automatic. Choose custom and input the numbers from the link.

These steps did not help. Upload speed remains the same. 128Mbps on a 1Gbps line.

Hey Doug11,

 

Can you check your settings in the Home app to see if you have preferred activities set up? If so, try disabling them and running a new speed and mesh test and let me know what your results read.

No preferred activities selected and mesh test says great connection

 
How can we confirm that the system speed test is working OK? When my mobile is connected to wifi I often get upload speeds which are much greater than what the wifi built in speed test indicates (more than 200 Mbps)

What are you using for the speed test? Are your running it through the Google Home app, or through a third party tester, such as https://goo.gle/2QXCbe1? If you run tests on both, do you get the same speed test results?

Using the built in test and checking against another on my mobile as I said.

The results are not the same as I indicated. Device test is much faster than wifi built in test.

Thanks for the update. A quick question: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? 
 

Give these steps a try:

 

  • If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  • Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  • Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  • Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  • If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.
