Wifi consistently slows to below 50mbps multiple times daily

My Wifi consistently slows to below 50mbps multiple times daily, I pay gigabit speed, use coax network with a cable modem, connected to Google nest wifi mesh with 2 nodes. The Google net speed test always shows 800 + maps however third party tests have many times very different results, okidata for instance just resulted in 40mbps down 7mbps up. I have had isp techs over time and again always saying their network is not the problem. What is one supposed to do? What is the answer? My router is Google nest HD2, and is new, although gen 1.

Please anyone, have you ever encountered this? Most importantly, over comes this situation?

Thanks,

Bewildered and overwhelmed.

Hi @Rjtunz,

Thanks for your post on the community! I understand your Wi-Fi speeds are consistently dropping below 50 Mbps despite your gigabit service, and you've noted discrepancies between Google Nest's speed tests and third-party results like OOKLA's. That sounds frustrating, especially when your ISP has confirmed their network isn't the problem. I'm ready to help you look into this further.

Before we move forward, I need some relevant information:

  • You mentioned your router is a Google Nest HD2 (Gen 1). What is the make and model of your cable modem? If you're unsure, please refer to our Help Center article titled "What Google Nest Wifi device do I have?" to help identify it.
  • What's your approximate home or apartment's lot area in square feet?
  • Which access points are affected?
  • Do you use a modem and router combo?
  • Is a network switch part of your setup?
  • Does the slow speed affect all devices connected to your Wi-Fi, or only specific ones?
  • Have you noticed any changes in the LED lights on your Google Nest Wifi devices or your cable modem when the speeds drop?

I'll be happy to help you once you provide this information.

Best regards,

Debora
