nest wifi router hong kong

I am using  a Nest WiFi Router and Point inn the UK that were originally bought in Hong Kong - I recently bought in the UK another Nest Router to extend my home network coverage - however, I've not been able to add the Router to the network as I'm constantly receiving a Could Not Connect message even after speaking with Google support - after resets and other troubleshooting, I've still not been able to connect the Router - any help would be much appreciated

Hello @johncmirwin

WiFi regulations vary from region to region. Even though the hardware may be identical, when it is sold in a particular region, it is configured from the factory to follow the regulatory requirements for the region it is being sold in. Using a system outside the region it was originally manufactured for may work (though it can also have issues that may not be apparent). But, mixing units manufactured for different regions with each other in a single system will not work.

Thanks for your response - I’ve returned the item to the seller and will look for alternative solution

just for a testing, could you please setup Hong-Kong router as a standalone one, add a separate ssid on it and check on what channel does it run? my bet is that channel will be not a 36, and this is why it does not form a mesh with the UK unit. I would try to wire it to the main router and check does it work with wired backhaul and does client devices change wifi channel on the roaming/handover event?
