My nest x Yale lock AA battery only can last for one week now. Compare to a year ago, it can last for a couple of months. What is happening?

Hi Edwin_yeoh,
I’m sorry to hear that. Let’s see what’s going on — a few questions: are the batteries of your lock fresh and standard AA alkaline batteries? Have you tried restarting or resetting your lock? Also, what’s the status light of the lock?
Thanks,
JT

Hi JT,
1) are the batteries of your lock fresh and standard AA alkaline batteries?
Ans: Yes and no. Energizer standard AA batteries only can last for 1 week. To reduce the cost, i have to use energizer rechargeable AA batteries which only can last for 3 days.
2) Have you tried restarting or resetting your lock?
Ans: I had factory resetting it last Monday as your suggested solution. No improvement for rechargeable batteries. I haven’t try the standard AA battery yet. Probably need more than 1 week to justify.
3) Also, what’s the status light of the lock?
Ans: I have no idea about the lock status light. Seem like always no light even though pressed it. However, Nest connect is solid green.

Edwin

Hi there,
Thanks for checking that for us. Could you remove all the batteries, then replace them with any standard AA alkaline batteries?
Note: Do not use rechargeable NiMH batteries or other kinds of batteries.
Thanks,
JT

Hi JT,
unfortunately it’s happened again today, low battery warning (after 2 weeks). This time I want to remove nest connect to partition check the issue.

edwin.

Thanks,

It doesn't work. I've spent about $50 constantly changing out the batteries every week now.

what is Nest Connect normal operating status light? Now is solid green always.

Hi Edwin_yeoh,
Good question! When the status light is green it means it’s connected to the Wi-Fi network and it's operating normally.
Thanks,
JT

Standard AA batteries only can last for 10 days. What else I can do beside replace Nest Connect? I think this will be my last attempt to fix it before I change to other smart lock.

Hi there,
Change your batteries with AA alkaline batteries instead of the regular batteries then let know how it goes.
Thanks,
JT

Well, to sum up,
alkaline batteries only can last for 10 days.
Normal batteries no idea, never use them.
rechargeable batteries only 2 days.

I am having the same issues with batteries only lasting a couple days in my lock. I have been using regular AA batteries the whole time.

Hello Cpowell,
Got it — could you replace them with standard AA alkaline batteries then let me know if that works?
