Google Home (1st gen) support, please!

My Google Home first gen is not working the the most recent Home app anymore. Could you please save these hardware by offering API support so we can develop for them?

I own the original first-generation Google Home—the exact model shown here:

Unfortunately, it's no longer usable. The device itself is fully functional, but the setup process through the Google Home app fails to complete. The app detects it via Bluetooth, connects it to Wi-Fi, and goes through the motions, but at the final step it tells me to update the Google app—even though it’s already up to date—and refuses to finish the setup.

I had hoped there might be a workaround, like using a custom solution via the Google Home API. But from what I’ve seen, this device is no longer supported by the API either.
