Lost All Scripts in Google Home Script Editor - Need Help

Rolle

Update and Solution:

I found a solution to the problem. Google will have to continue investigating why the problem occurred in the first place, as I cannot answer that (nor can they, it seems).

I tried creating a new home. This solved the problem with the routines, so now I can see and access them.

I had to re-enter all my devices, rooms, and routines, which took only 12 hours (I have a fully smart home).

So, for future reference, if you encounter this problem, you will need to create a new home and start from scratch! It is a tedious task, but think of it as a move; it gives you the opportunity to clear out things you no longer need.

Let's hope Google finds a way to prevent this in the future.

The problem.

Since last night, I have lost all my scripts in the Google Home web interface (Google Script Editor) and Google home app. All the routines I created since the script editor was launched are gone. I can create new scripts, and they pass validation without any issues. I can save the script and activate it. However, when I close the editor and return to the main page, there is nothing to display. Everything is gone.

I have spoken with Google support, but the representatives are not trained for this type of error or questions and directed me here instead.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems, and how have you resolved them?

Since I cannot select the correct label, I am placing this here in this forum, and if any administrator wishes, they can move my post to a more suitable thread.

Update:

Since my last post, I have noticed that I cannot access my routines in the Google Home app either.

I have an iPhone 13 PRO with the latest iOS, and my partner has a Samsung S22 Ultra. We cannot access any routines on that device either. We have also noticed that Google has released an update for the Google Home app, and we are now wondering if version 3.19 might be the issue.

Update:

All my routines are apparently hidden, which means I cannot see or edit them. Routines based on time, HOME/AWAY status, and sunrise/sunset do not work at all. Routines triggered by words or actions from other devices do work. However, as mentioned, I cannot see or edit any routines.

Update:

Google support seems to be ignoring me and my questions. I was directed to submit my questions via the feedback form, and after that, Google support has gone silent.

Latest Update:

Google has now responded again after I inquired about the progress on this issue:

"Thank you for contacting the Google Nest Customer Care Team.

We handle hardware here, not programming. That is the responsibility of Google's engineering team, which you can contact via Feedback in your Google Home app, as I have explained in previous emails. Thank you!"

This is very peculiar since Feedback is not a support site and they do not respond back.

Is Google really so careless that they ignore the small user instead of solving the problem and preventing users from switching to other smart platforms?

"Not all publicity is good publicity."

Update:

The new version 3.20.102 has now been rolled out, but unfortunately, it has not changed my problem. I have had this issue for a month now, and I believe Google will never solve it.

Hello @Rolle ,

Currently, we don't have the capability to recover deleted scripts. The workaround would be manual backups; in effect, copy-pasting scripts to a document.

Can scripts be save to folder? So, there would be a back up if scripts are lost?

Can scripts be saved in a folder to provide a way to retrieve scripts if they are lost

No. Scripts cannot be saved in separate folders within the Google Home Script Editor. However, I have saved all my scripts in a separate text file in case this scenario became a reality.

Hi!

This is not the problem.

The problem is that after the latest Google update to version 3.19.101, I no longer have access to my routines in the app. They still exist, as I know because routines triggered by a command still work. However, routines triggered by time, sunrise/sunset, or HOME/AWAY status do not work.

I cannot access them because I get an "Internal error encountered" message whenever I press on ”automations” in the app. I can create new routines via home.google.com, but once saved, I cannot access the newly created routine.

So, the issue of Google not being able to restore deleted routines is not the problem
