Thanks for reaching out! We want to clarify the prerequisite regarding the Nest Hub.

As mentioned in the Home API codelab's prerequisites, a compatible Nest Hub is needed to complete the codelab exercises. However, please note that a Nest Hub is not a mandatory prerequisite for participating in the Google Home API Challenge itself.

You can check out the list of supported hubs for the codelab here.

If you don’t have a Google Home Hub, you can still participate in the challenge using the Google Assistant Simulator, which is available in the Actions on Google Console. This online tool allows you to test your Actions and see how they would respond on different devices, including smart displays like the Home Hub. You can also use the Google Assistant on your Android phone to test voice interactions. Many developers use these simulators during development when they don’t have access to the physical device. Just make sure to check the challenge rules to confirm that simulators are allowed. But in most cases, using the online simulator is perfectly acceptable and a great way to get involved without needing the actual hardware.
